Keeps running inventory on materials used in performance of their duties. Responsibilities To perform the installation, maintenance, servicing, repairing and re-building of air conditioning and heating systems, refrigeration systems, and associated equipment. Determines by regular inspection the re-repair and maintenance work necessary to prevent breakdowns and major overhauls on HVAC and refrigeration equipment. Recommends when equipment should be shut down for major overhauls. Plans sequence of operations and methods to use when performing repairs, replacements, mechanical alterations, and overhauls, following trade practice and manufacturer’s specifications. Installs HVAC and refrigeration systems. Checks and calibrates systems after installation and makes necessary changes, adjustments and modifications to obtain desired results, using blueprints, sketches and manufacturer’s specification and manuals. Maintains, repairs, trouble shoots and overhauls complete HVAC and refrigeration equipment: replaces, fits, and installs parts as necessary. Charges system with refrigerant, checks and tests for leaks, sets and adjusts controls and regulators, and checks operation after repairs. Operates and adjusts all conditioning systems to heat and cool air to specified temperatures and to maintain proper humidity. Operates, defrosts, and services refrigeration systems and equipment. Makes operating adjustment as required. Checks and replaces thermostats. Maintains log or record of gauge readings in given areas. Utilizes hand tools and air measuring devices such as thermometers and draft gauges. Provide on-call emergency coverage as required by department by policy. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications Three years minimum experience in related field. High school diploma, Vocational school trade in related field. Possess minimum of EPA Type I certificate. Excellent physical condition and the ability to climb and lift. Minimum requirement to lift 75 pounds. Must posses a valid driver’s license. Must be thoroughly familiar with the principles of HVAC Systems. Must be able to follow written or oral instructions and read blueprints. Must be familiar with both State and Local codes.
