Job Summary: The HVAC Technician 2 position installs and maintains building heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems (commercial and residential), refrigerators, drinking fountains, walk-in freezers, ice machines, evaporative coolers, furnaces, lab equipment, appliances, and other gas fueled equipment. Adjusts and replaces thermostats, works on pneumatic and electric controls, replaces electric motors, single and three phase, replaces bearings and fan assemblies, works on air handlers with chilled and hot water coils, replaces compressors, works on cooling towers and water treatment systems, repairs and replaces pumps, works on gas furnaces and incinerators, and installs and repairs ducting. Performs other duties as needed.
Education and Experience: High School Diploma or GED required. Minimum of five years related experience with a complete understanding of Uniform Mechanical Code and other codes that apply to the trade required.
Knowledge and Skills: Must be able to use all tools, equipment, and machinery necessary for HVAC work. Must be able to operate and maintain light mechanical equipment. Must be able to work effectively in protective clothing and equipment. Able to read, write legibly; speak in English with professional quality; use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). Operate/troubleshoot basic office equipment required for the position. Able to relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; collaborate and accept direction. Able to communicate effectively in English in person, in writing, and on the telephone; think critically; manage multiple assignments effectively; organize and prioritize workload; work well under pressure; problem solve; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail; work independently with minimal supervision. Able to distinguish colors as necessary; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone, and identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the workplace; see adequately to read computer screens, and written documents necessary to the position.
Licensures and Certifications: Two year certificate in refrigeration required.
