Join TotalEnergies Renewables USA, LLC as an HVDC Specialist reporting to our NYC office.  


Attentive has successfully secured a 1.3GW offtake contract in New Jersey in 2024 and plans on further scaling its efforts and securing opportunities in the months ahead. We’re looking for team members motivated to establishing the foundations of a large capital offshore wind project through the various phases of such development and making a difference in our backyard.


What You Will Bring:


15+ years of technical experience in HVDC & FACTs delivery of projects required, additional masters or PhD Degree in Electrical Engineering preferred. Professional Engineering licensure is preferable but not required,Proficient with, or ability to use, electromagnetic transient software, Mathcad, MATLAB, Aspen/CAPE, PSS®E/PSLF, and other calculation tools commonly used in power systems engineering. Ability to demonstrate experience in moving from study phase, into detailed engineering phase, into commissioning phase of the HVDC Projects.Expertise with HVDC, FACTS, and related IBR and their specification, application, study, modelling, design, and operation, including but not limited to:HVDC converter technologies (e.g., VSC, LCC), configurations, and application/control methods of grid following, forming, and firming, IBR integrationFACTS technologies (e.g., STATCOM, SVC, Sync Condenser, Hybrid, and Series Compensation) dynamic reactive power or FACTS devicesDemonstrated experience in steady state, transient, resonance, interaction, integration, design and planning studies for the design and specification of the main components of the HVDC systemAble to work in substation site environment on occasion.Design and project execution experience in the following areas: power system studies/planning, underground/overhead transmission systems (69kV and higher), AIS/GIS substation physical and single line development (69kV and higher), protection and control, reactive power compensation, FACTS & HVDC Systems.Demonstrated project management experience.Excellent understanding of all phases and all equipment/interfaces within Offshore and Onshore HVDC Systems is required, specifically within the Offshore Wind Industry is highly preferred.Excellent understanding of all phases of an interconnection process for ISOs/RTOs/TOs is requiredProject experience assessing and selecting competing electrical designs based on technical merit, while also being capable of providing or evaluating cost estimates for specific solutions.Familiarity working with RTO/ISOs, utilities, OEMs and EPCs.Working knowledge of interconnection tariffs, utility standards, FERC, NERC, ANSI/IEEE/IEC/CIGRE/DNV/CENELEC and regional reliability standards and requirements.Ability to manage consultants and contractors to ensure successful and timely delivery of work packages.Experience presenting before external project stakeholder on technical details, progress and risk.Demonstration of excellent communication skills both oral and written, including the ability to communicate complex technical topics to a non-technical audience

Activities Provide overall technical expertise in the areas of HVDC, including various configurations like VSC, Symmetrical, Monopole and Bipole, STATCOMs, etc. configurations.Provide overall engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning related expertise in HVDC P&C, Primary, Layout, Physical, applications including, hardware in the loop, factory acceptance tests, real-time simulator tests, and on-site testing & commissioning.Ability to perform and review complex engineering calculations needed for the detailed engineering of the HVDC projectsAble to perform complex research about HVDC equipment, control methods, and/or explore alternative solutionsLead the development and implementation of company’s requirements and technical specifications of the HVDC parameters with OEM(s)Review, document and approve the detailed engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning related documents and drawings received as deliverables from Owner’s Engineers or OEMsLead and liaison, when necessary, key technical stakeholder (internal or external) workshops and discussions surrounding HVDC and represent as the Project’s (Attentive Energy’s) HVDC Subject Matter ExpertInterface as needed with multi-disciplines of the project including WTG Technical Experts, Onshore Transmission Manager, Senior Interconnection Engineer, Cable Specialists, and others relevant to the Transmission scope as well as to the Offshore Wind Farm scope.Manage external consultants and providing technical guidance and direction to the OE and OEM supporting the HVDC and Transmission related technical deliverablesEnsure design compliance with the respective industry (e.g. IEEE, ANSI, PJM, IEC, CIGRE), utility, RTO/ISO, FERC-NERC governing standards and requirementsParticipate in conferences and forums to discuss technical concepts and challenges in the area of transmission, HVDC and FACTSAssisting with defining project schedules for a single discipline or may have responsibility for multiple disciplines.Assisting in developing, maintaining, and updating engineering standards as they relate to the Transmission and HVDC packagesPeriodically travel between company offices as well as travel to and from project facilities where travel can include technology assessments, factory witnessing and site visits Perform other tasks and takes on additional duties as reasonably assigned by supervisor, project manager and/or group unit.Guiding, mentoring, and training of junior staff in the area of HVDC/FACTS and other engineering disciplines Context & Environment
