What we do

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide protection and humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. We take action in response to emergencies and, at the same time, promote respect for international humanitarian law. We are an independent and neutral organization, and our mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with their International Federation in order to ensure a concerted, rational and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. We direct and coordinate the international activities conducted in these situations.

Purpose

Within the ICRC's Edge Computing and OS Management team (ECOS), the Hybrid Cloud Engineer is to play a senior role within the team, ideally both on Windows and Linux/RHEL technologies (Linux/RHEL being the priority). This role will be key for supporting the whole team to progress as well as ensuring smooth operations, continuous improvement, standardization, and automation, and comforting the cooperation with other TECH and Business Product teams.

Accountabilities & Functional responsibilities Operation and Evolution: Managing Operating Systems lifecycle for Windows (2016, 2019, 2022, …)  and Linux (RHEL 8/9) including OS image automated maintenance in coordination with the Automation team using Ansible/AWX, and Packer, policy management, security hardening and update management in collaboration with Security teams. Collaboration and Support: Work closely with ECOS Product team members and other TECH Product teams as Senior Windows and Linux engineers, providing high-level technical support, best practices, and guidance on new environments. Automation and efficiency: Utilize automation tools to streamline the deployments, updates, and maintenance processes. Security and compliance: Ensure that operations comply with organizational security policies and industry best practices. Knowledge sharing and documentation: Document migration processes and share knowledge with team members. Relationships Internally, interacts with all ICT colleagues and any ICRC employee that uses ICT equipment. Externally, interacts with technical partners. Professional Experience required Minimum 5 years of professional experience in the IT field, with a minimum of 3 years of System administration in a Microsoft environment. Proficient in Linux/RHEL and/or Windows Server 2016/19/22 administration. Communication and collaboration: Excellent communication skills, capable of working effectively with diverse teams, local and remote. Strong ability to guide and support teams both in operations and next evolutions. Professional qualities: Demonstrated commitment to professional development, continuous learning, and adopting new technologies. Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and new technological landscapes. Good knowledge of the English language (written and spoken) Motivated by the humanitarian work Assets Experience with Azure server management (Azure VMs, Azure Arc, Azure Stack HCI). Experience with Kubernetes (OpenShift / Azure Kubernetes Services). Experience with Windows Defender for both Windows and Linux will be a plus. Linux/RHEL7/8/9 administration Experience with containerization technologies (Docker/Podman). Familiarity with automation tools (Ansible, Terraform) and CI/CD pipelines. Certifications: Windows, RHEL, Satellite, and Ansible are desirable. Innovation and problem-solving: A track record of innovative solutions to technical challenges. Strong problem-solving skills, capable of addressing complex operational issues, documenting, and sharing solutions with colleagues. Agile methodology: Experience using Microsoft TFS/Azure DevOps, particularly the management of PBI (creation, follow-up, and review).
