Hydrogeologist/Groundwater Modeler – Senior Level (Hybrid)

Job Description:

Summary:

Barr Engineering Co. is seeking a senior-level hydrogeologist to work on challenging projects related to quantitative hydrogeology and to help further develop our practice and our people. The person in this position will apply hydrogeology and groundwater modeling skills on projects related to water supply evaluations, solution mining, remediation of contaminated groundwater, mine planning and development, and groundwater-surface water interactions. Additional responsibilities may include leading project teams in conceptual site model development; numerical modeling of groundwater flow and fate and transport; aquifer test performance and analysis; consulting with regulatory agencies and clients; and research and development associated with MODFLOW.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's degree in geology, hydrogeology, or engineering

15 years of work experience directly related to groundwater flow and/or fate and transport modeling

Expertise in MODFLOW

Strong computer skills, including programing experience using Python or FORTRAN; experience using groundwater fate and transport codes; and parameter estimation and uncertainty analysis using PEST

Experience in designing hydrogeologic field investigation activities, including aquifer test implementation and analysis

Strong technical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication skills, ability to write well, and attention to detail

A flexible working style and the ability to work independently and with teams of specialists to meet client and project needs

Willingness to travel and periodically adjust personal schedule to meet project needs

Legal authorization to work in the U.S. without the need for sponsorship from Barr, now or in the future

Possession of a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record 


Preferred Qualifications:

Ph.D. in geology, hydrogeology, or engineering

A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position is based out of Barr's Minneapolis, Minnesota, office.

Compensation: 

The anticipated base salary range for this position is $130,000 to $150,000/year. This position is classified as exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Compensation will vary based on relevant experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors. Employees in this position may also be eligible for a discretionary cash bonus based on team and individual performance. Barr has a “no retained earnings” model and distributes all its profit to our employees through our bonus plan and ESOP.

NOTE: Some work locations may feature rough terrain typical of construction sites and may also require entering and working in facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. Job assignments may involve work on waste disposal sites and sites requiring cleanup of hazardous materials. An OSHA-mandated physical exam may be required. Safety training will be provided.
