HDR has an immediate opening for a Hydropower Mechanical Engineering Team Lead to join our Northern California team and be a part of our vibrant and growing national hydropower practice that ENR ranks Number 2 in the Top 10 firms providing services to owners and operators of hydropower plants. Primary responsibilities for this position include leading the hydropower mechanical engineering practice in the Northern California (NorCal) Area, overseeing management of NorCal’s hydropower mechanical engineering projects and team and engaging in business development and client engagement activities. HDR operates offices throughout California and our NorCal hydropower practice serves as a vital hub linking hydropower expertise and capabilities among our Power and Water hydropower clients in NorCal, as well as leading and providing support for hydropower projects throughout California, the southwestern U.S. and nationwide. This position involves a combination of leadership, business development, people management and technical duties for activities led and/or supported by the NorCal hydropower mechanical engineering team.

In the role of Hydropower Mechanical Engineering Team Lead, we'll count on you to:Take responsibility for operations of the mechanical section including staff hiring and development, mentorship, business performance, quality control and marketing supportFunction as Project Manager and/or Technical Lead on projects and take responsibility for production on projects in addition to management responsibilities. In your role as a technical leader, you should be able to review equipment and design specifications, evaluate equipment and contractor bids, perform site inspections and provide field support during installation, testing and start-up.Take administrative responsibility for section staff and technical service functions, and lead and coordinate services with other power and hydropower sections across NorCal and the broader HDR Be directly involved with hydropower clients in marketing, project production and related issues. This includes business development, preparing proposals and interviews.See that all work is planned, organized, controlled, evaluated and executed through proactive project management and quality controlSelect, train, develop and manage technical personnelManage and develop multidiscipline teamsWork cooperatively with the National Hydropower Practice and overall, Power Sector and marketing staff in local and national marketing and production effortsPerform other duties as needed to support project goals and HDR business activities Perform other duties as needed

Preferred Qualifications

Prior consulting experience that includes client relationship building and/or client manager responsibilities7 years of experience in the power industryActive engagement in hydropower and/or engineering industry associations (ASME, NHA, CEATI, ACEC, etc.)Preferred experience across large valves, turbines, piping systems, rotating equipment, heavy machinery, and/or engineering design. Experience in power station mechanical systems and design a plus (e.g. cooling water, lube oil, governor hydraulics, compressed air, HVAC).

The expected compensation range for this position is $112,266.00 - $160,380.00 annually depending upon skills, experience, education and geographical location.
