Hypoid Gear and Differential Assembly Product Development Engineer

In this position... 

Position is for a hypoid gear and differential assembly product development engineer in the Underbody Mechanical Components Department.  Engineer will be responsible for current and future model hypoid gears, differential assemblies and all the components inside the differential assembly that they own.  This position will be highly technical and cover a range of different mechanical components related to axles.

Bachelor's degree in Engineering

Strong interests in mechanical component and system design

Passion to progress state of the art in gear and differential design

GD&T knowledge and ability to read & update blue prints

Ability to review and assess 2D/3D CAD data, stacks and VSA studies

Proficient in Microsoft Office Software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc)

Hypoid &/or straight bevel gear knowledge/experience preferred

 Experience with gear design and analysis software preferred. Kimos, GEMS, AnSol/Calyx (Hypoid 3D, Hypoid K, Trans 3D), Romax, etc     

Even better, you may have...

Strong engineering and prior Design & Release background preferred

WERS experience preferred

Familiarity with Teamcenter preferred

Prior launch experience preferred

What you'll do...

Lead Hypoid gear Design and Release activities for current and future axle applications

Lead Differential Assembly Design and Release activities for current and future axle applications

Including leading design and responsibility for all components within the differential assembly

Support Sterling Axle Plant on current model axle hypoids and differentials

Own ring gear to differential joint (bolted or laser welded)

 Own eLocker differentials and components

 Create and maintain FMA Documents 

Create and complete DVP’s

Run analytical and physical testing, including failure analysis and root cause investigation as needed

Lead component or subsystem team meetings with systems, manufacturing, STA and other component engineers

Lead ‘Team of 4’ cross functional meetings between PD and Purchasing to source components

Lead program milestone deliverables for new program gateway sign-offs (SSSOS)

 Order/deliver working prototypes for new programs & projects to support preproduction builds and testing

Completed PPAP / Production implementation on new programs or changes to existing parts

Create and maintain significant/critical characteristic document (SCCAF) with supplier or internal powertrain plant

Manage supplier delivery and Ford milestones through Job #1

Implement TVM actions for current and future model designs

Delivery Quality Actions for current model differentials 

Support Full Service Suppliers as needed

Review warranty returns, durability vehicles and DVP testing in person at ATNPC or Sterling Axle Plant
