The Instrument & Electrical Technician is responsible for performing preventive and corrective maintenance on instrumentation and electrical equipment at the La Porte, Texas area’s facilities while assisting and developing other technicians in the group. The I&E Technician is also responsible for leading electrical power distribution systems maintenance activities, assist other maintenance personnel in developing inspection/repair scopes and write/update procedures as needed.

The Instrument & Electrical Technician is responsible for performing preventive and corrective maintenance on instrumentation, DCS, and electrical equipment at our Osceola site.  

The candidate will also be responsible for leading electrical power distribution systems maintenance activities, assisting other maintenance personnel in developing inspection/repair scopes and write/update procedures as needed.  Working with the site and engineering teams to drive towards solutions.

The job will entail day to day routine, emergency, and major maintenance, reading and comprehension of circuits/prints/P&ID’s/schematics/technical manuals.

Required Skills / Abilities:

Promote safety rules and regulations as well as environmental complianceEngage actively in a team environment, bring a positive attitude, maintain personal accountability, and provide mentoring and coaching for team member developmentProvide hands on support as required to resolve Instrument/Electrical field problems as they occurThis position is responsible to perform and/or supervise the inspection, repair, installation, troubleshooting and modification of process controls, control valves, safety devices, analyzers, PLC’s, field instrumentation (pressure, level and flow instrumentation), process monitoring equipment, low and high voltage motors/breakers and control circuits and distributed control systems (DCS)Instrument Technicians are also responsible for commissioning of new plants in addition to troubleshooting, repair, and calibration of plant instrumentation and controls.Technicians must be familiar with all equipment in the plant. A sampling of these devices include: transmitters, switches, analyzers, PH and Conductivity probes, programmable controllers, proximity devices, level control systems, control valves, equipment and personnel safety systems, pay-meter systems, electrical distribution systems, transformers, single phase motors, three phase motors and motor drives and controls. Within each category are a variety of pneumatic and electronic devices.Investigate equipment failures, determine root cause of failure, and recommend appropriate solutions to reduce reoccurrence of/or eliminate cause of failureRecommend and specify revisions to improve equipment performance and/or system reliability/capacityAssist in the development, implementation, and periodic review of preventative/predictive maintenance programs to reduce unplanned shutdowns and improve overall plant on stream capabilityUpdate and/or create maintenance manual/procedures for certain equipment as neededKeep abreast of and evaluate new methodologies, work practices, equipment, instrumentation, controls, technology, etc., for application and use within the plantParticipate in the planning and execution of minor and major planned/unplanned shutdowns; provide technical and hands on support as required during shutdownsAssist in the development and ongoing improvement of the plant mechanical integrity programMust be able to develop work scopes for equipment repair and overhaul, to prepare and provide technical reports as well as enter information into SAP to provide accurate documentation on equipment and information to enable others in the organization to carry out their responsibilities effectivelyThis is a safety sensitive position.

Minimum Hiring Requirements:

Ability to read and interpret technical drawings (electrical drawings, schematics, P&ID’s, equipment drawings)Experience with SAP or equivalent CMMS system a plusDemonstrate the practice of safe handling of hand tools and hand power tools typically and commonly used in maintenance tasksKnowledge of PLC and DCS controls is a plusUnderstand the properties, behaviors, and hazards of the equipmentFive (8) years minimum maintenance experience in a petrochemical, manufacturing, or military environmentHigh voltage equipment (up to 13.8KV) maintenance and troubleshooting experience requiredTwo-year Associate degree in Instrumentation/Electrical discipline or relevant military experienceWorking knowledge basic word processing, email and spreadsheet programs.Practical knowledge of machinery overhauls and refurbishment.Good organizational skills, the ability to work alone if necessary, and the ability to lead a crew.Supervisory skills/experienceDemonstrated safe work skills, fundamental computer skills and the ability to work extended hoursAble to work in a team environment with Operators, Mechanics, Engineering/Technical Support and other contracted craftsOn call rotation and must be willing to work overtimeDrive company vehicles safely
