SUMMARY:

The Instrumentation and Electrical (I&E) Technician position is based at the Marathon Pipe Line’s Marine Terminal and/or the East Hynes Land Terminal in Long Beach, California. This position works in and around petroleum products and crude oil facilities executing electrical, controls and instrumentation duties at terminal and pipeline facilities. The position also provides field support to various other Marathon Pipe Line LLC processes and departments. This position will assess, maintain, repair and monitor control of distributed control systems. This position reports into the Marathon Pipe Line LA Basin Region Maintenance Area leadership team.

The successful candidate will perform various duties including: maintenance and repair of medium voltage equipment, calibration and troubleshooting various instrumentation, control systems and automation systems. The candidate should have the ability to trouble shoot problems, work independently and also in a team environment. Travel, callouts and overtime may be required on an as-needed basis. This position is represented by the IBEW.

KEY RESPONSIBILTIES

The I&E Technician will perform tasks associated with routine maintenance, facility instrumentation and measurement devices.

In addition, this role will be accountable for final control elements, such as process control, safety and emergency shutdown, fire detection and suppression, gas detection, wiring and control panels, in addition to other duties as directed. 

The successful candidate will maintain, troubleshoot and repair PLC’s, communications and partner with SCADA and Engineering personnel as appropriate. 

This role will be responsible for maintaining and updating all system documentation, including loop diagrams, panel drawings, as well as relevant discipline control and internal documents to support the business. 

The I&E Technician is required to complete all required training, and perform work in a safe and environmentally conscious manner in accordance with all Environmental, Safety and Regulatory requirements.

Ability to work occasional Callouts and OT, including nights, weekends and holidays.

Ability to work either a Monday – Friday, Monday - Thursday or Thursday - Sunday day shift schedule, which may include a rotation, subject to management discretion.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Ascending/Descending stairs and climbing ladders

Performing hot work, working at heights, below ground and in confined spaces, such as vaults and storage tanks

Pushing/pulling/lifting & carrying up to 50 pounds

Walking, bending, kneeling, squatting, twisting, trunk rotation, neck extension and flexion, crawling, and reaching overhead required

EDUCATION AND REQUIREMENTS

A high school diploma or GED is required. An Associate’s degree in a technical field and/or Journeyman level qualified preferred. 

Proficiency in basic computer skills is expected.

Previous pipeline experience preferred, with emphasis on electrical/instrumentation/mechanical.

A valid driver's license is required

The successful candidate must complete their Level 2 qualification within (24) months of hire. Entry Level pay rate is $41.40 p/hour. Current Level 2 pay rate is $54.60.
