IACUC Post-Approval Monitor

We recognize and appreciate the value and contributions of individuals with diverse backgrounds and experiences and welcome all qualified individuals to apply. **Job Summary** Battelle is seeking an experienced research compliance professional to execute Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) post-approval monitoring activities. The IACUC Post Approval Monitor (PAM) is responsible for ensuring ongoing compliance with approved animal use protocols and institutional policies. This role involves conducting PAM activities to verify that research involving animals is conducted in accordance with ethical standards and regulatory requirements. The PAM will work closely with researchers, the IACUC, and other stakeholders to promote a culture of compliance and animal welfare. The IACUC Post-Approval Monitor (PAM) will work under the IACUC and will work closely with researchers, the IACUC, and other stakeholders to promote a culture of compliance and animal welfare. The PAM will conduct regular and ad-hoc monitoring to ensure compliance with approved protocols and institutional policies, review research activities, procedures, and records to assist study directors in identifying deviations from IACUC-approved protocols. The PAM will also cross train to assist the IACUC Administrator and is expected to support facility reports, inspections, and audits. **Responsibilities** + Communicate and work collaboratively with IACUC, study directors, veterinarians, and staff supporting animal husbandry and care in a positive manner. + Identify critical study activities that may require Post Approval Monitoring. + Conduct observations and audits of approved protocols. + Prepare detailed reports on monitoring activities and findings for the IACUC and institutional leadership identifying any deviations from approved protocols or non-compliance issues to the IACUC. + Assist in the development, implementation and review of corrective action plans to address compliance issues. + Review and update procedures for animal use ensuring continued compliance with internal and external guidelines. + Provide guidance and support to researchers on maintaining compliance with approved protocols. + Serve as a compliance resource to the research community and other internal interested parties. + Assist with semiannual facility inspections and program reviews. + Cross train to assist IACUC Administrator. + Identify training and educational needs regarding specific and procedural practices. + Serve as a reference resource for drafting program enhancements in response to reviewed literature. + Proactively identify areas for improvement in compliance processes and procedures and make recommendations for enhancements. + Identify training and educational needs regarding specific and procedural practices. + Draft revised Standard Operating Procedures, guidelines and policies. + Perform other duties as assigned. **Key Qualifications** + Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., biology, animal science, research administration) or registered veterinary technician or equivalent combination of education and experience. + Knowledge of the behavior, biology, and husbandry of laboratory animals. + Knowledge of federal laws, regulations and procedures pertaining to the use of animals in research and teaching including, but not limited to AWA, AWAR, PHS Policy, HREA, etc. + Two or more years of experience in research compliance, animal care, or a related field and experience working with an IACUC including knowledge and understanding of regulations applicable to animal use. + Experience in Post-Approval Monitoring, protocol review and participating in semi-annual inspections. + Ability to work with a high priority focused on animal welfare, biosecurity, attention to detail and timeliness. Individual must demonstrate persistence and energy in a dynamic, fast-paced, and demanding work environment + Willingness to learn at a rapid pace in results-oriented, teamwork environment. + Effective oral and written communication skills to interact with others to provide guidance and assistance in meeting regulatory requirements and resolving problems. + Excellent written and oral communication, and interpersonal skills, with demonstrated ability to articulate compliance issues and enforce compliance standards. + Ability to work with flexibility on several tasks simultaneously and to meet various concurrent deadlines. + Ability to work with animals. + Expertise working with a variety of traditional research animals species (e.g., fish, rodents, guinea pigs, rabbits, swine, nonhuman primates, etc.) is preferred. + Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with electronic compliance management systems. + Work may involve the use of potentially hazardous or infectious materials or may be located in areas where such materials are used. Work requires the use of personal protective equipment and adherence to strict safety protocols. + Must be willing to participate in a medical health surveillance program to include receiving and FDA approved immunizations that are appropriate for the work conducted and be able to wear personal protective equipment as required. **Preferred Qualifications** + Certification as a Certified Professional IACUC Administrator (CPIA) is preferred or willingness to obtain certification. **Benefits: Live an Extraordinary Life** We care about your well-being, not just on the job.
