**Introduction** IBM Cloudant is a one of the services that make up the IBM Cloud Data Services offering. IBM Cloudant is a NoSQL database that offers a full managed Database as-a-service (DBaaS), globally across all the IBM Cloud regions. As a fully managed offering IBM Cloudant is responsible for the majority of the service stack, allowing Customers the ability to focus solely upon their applications. IBM Cloudant underpins much of the IBM Cloud offering and is an essential component in delivering a highly available, performant data store. IBM Cloudant is looking to recruit a (DevOps) Software Engineer Manager in the strategic Toronto office location. You will be working in conjunction with other geographically aligned and distributed partner teams based in the USA, UK and Australia, using a follow-the-sun model of service 24x365 Ability to attend the Infrastructure Key 3 times a week is a must. **Your role and responsibilities** The candidate will participate in an aligned service hours (pager duty) rota, nominally 12:00 - 20:00 participate in a shared weekend and public holidays service (pager duty) rota be a service focal and escalation point champion and implement process improvements that contribute to the overall service stability and success for Cloudant; work with the Advanced Customer Support (ACS) and Engineering teams to ensure that our Customers receive the best possible service possess a strong desire to work within a Cloud service environment have a passion for embracing new cloud technologies demonstrate personal responsibility for service love learning new techniques and tools in what can be a complex but rewarding technology space Work with the team to manage reliable and secure Cloud based Infrastructure Work with the team to monitor and remediate Compliance checks and remediation **Required technical and professional expertise** * Ability to debug, optimize code, and automate routine tasks * Experience in Systems Engineering, such as Linux I/O tuning, performance, memory management and troubleshooting. * Experience with problem solving issues in a live environment. * Capability to work in a global, multicultural and diverse environment. * Demonstratively strong communication skills, both written (Slack/Email), and Video Conferencing , and be able to work with virtual teams. * Ability to self-motivate and prioritize workload. * Analyzing system and application logs to understand the root of the problem. * Experience of Operating/running a Highly Available live service. * Experience in any of Infrastructure as Code tools : Chef, Terraform etc. * Fluent English. * An enthusiasm to learn. **Preferred technical and professional experience** * Knowledge of Erlang, Couchdb, Go, Python, Jenkins, JavaScript, Ruby, Erlang, Java, Git, Travis, Kubernetes, or other scripting languages and tools / ecosystems. * Experience with operating, configuring and optimizing Linux (specifically Debian). * Experience with developing and/or operating, complex mission-critical production database systems. * Experience developing databases Experience working with public cloud platforms like IBM Cloud, AWS, Azure or others. * Systematic problem-solving approach, coupled with excellent communication skills and a sense of ownership and drive.
