Imaging Support Specialist

Position Overview:

SUMMARY (Basic Purpose of the Job)

Provides overall support service functions according to radiology practice standards to ensure

optimal department functions. Organizes and uploads radiology images and reports to radiology

PACS using radiology informatics systems, while ensuring accuracy of patient healthcare

information. Coordinates and obtains required prior studies for procedures throughout the

organization. Appropriately transfers imaging studies electronically using radiology informatics

systems to referring physicians and patients while maintaining HIPAA compliance.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience: One year related experience in an imaging department.

Other Credentials:

Knowledge and Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

Special Training: Proficient computer skills including PACS systems and relevant supporting software. Familiarity with medical and radiology terminology.

Emotional Abilities: Ability to problem solve and multi-task.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

· Act as a contact person for historic procedural and diagnostic imaging requested by

other departments, patients and physicians.

· Provides prompt and efficient retrieval of exams for immediate on-site viewing by

radiologists and other healthcare professionals when presented with a disc.

· Electronically collect all needed prior exams from outside institution that are necessary

for procedures in the radiology department by uploading studies to radiology and

cardiovascular PACS through cloud-based image transfer software.

· .Electronically transmits Capital Health procedural and diagnostic imaging studies to outside institutions to facilitate patient care. · Retrieves reports from outside institutions to make them available for review. Uploads reports to radiology PACS as needed. This will be performed electronically with the use of radiology information systems. · Work collaboratively with Capital Health Medical Group, Department of Radiology, Central Scheduling, Surgical Scheduling and Radiology Scheduling to ensure all necessary imaging is available prior to patient appointments and procedures. · Electronically collects prior imaging studies and organizes imaging for radiology and physician conference and meetings, including case review meetings and vascular QI meetings. · Helps to maintain accurate databases with the radiology information systems and ensures accuracy of patient information when performing their duties. · Ensures compliance with HIPAA when performing their duties. · Follows all Radiology and Capital Health policies with special attention to policies regarding the release of patient information. · Prints radiology and cardiology exams to CD and DVD correctly and timely for patients and Capital Health staff. · Assists in the training of radiology staff members in the use of radiology IT systems. · Assists in the implementation of radiology IT projects when required. · Performs other radiology file and clerical duties as needed.
