Immersive Content Developer

The Immersive Content Developer is responsible for creating advanced training experiences within 3D environments using Unreal or Unity Engine. This role focuses on designing user interfaces and interactive elements that enhance learning, particularly in relation to realistic ship models and marine environments. The developer will ensure that the UI/UX and gameplay mechanics effectively support technical training. Additionally, they will update and modify ship models to meet quality standards for clients in the global shipping industry.

What You Will Do:

Create interactive, immersive training environments, simulations, and scenarios using Unreal/Unity Engine. Collaborate with subject matter experts to understand training objectives and translate them into interactive, visually compelling, and pedagogically effective training content Build and maintain complex environments, assets, and tools to support training development. Develop and implement gameplay mechanics, animations, interactions, and triggers that enhance the learning experience. Create rapid prototypes and proof-of-concept simulations to test new training concepts. Conduct user testing and provide technical and functional feedback for continuous improvement. Optimize training environments for performance on various platforms, including PC, VR, and mobile devices. Work cross-functionally with designers, developers, and educational experts to build, refine, and iterate on training simulations. Contribute to the creation of user manuals, deployment guides, and troubleshooting documentation to support end-users.

What You Will Need:

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Game Development, Interactive Media, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.  Minimum of three (3) years hands-on experience with Adobe Creative Suite (e.g. Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, After Effects, Animate).  Three years of experience in audio and video production and editing (e.g., Pro Tools, Audition, Premier Pro, Audacity).  Minimum of 3 years adult learning design and development. Marine engineering or oil and gas experience preferred. Experience designing and implementing interactive gameplay mechanics, environmental interactions, and scenarios for training purposes. Experience with Unreal/Unity Engine's AI systems, scripting languages (Blueprints, C++), and experience implementing AI behaviors in training scenarios. Proven experience in developing training or educational content using Unreal/Unity Engine or other game engines. Previous work on projects that include safety training, corporate training, military simulations, or any other area focused on skill-building or knowledge transfer.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

3D Modeling & Asset Integration: Knowledge of asset creation workflows, including importing 3D models, textures, and animations into Unreal/Unity Engine. VR/AR Development: Familiarity with VR/AR development tools and techniques in Unreal Engine, including optimization for headsets such as Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and other devices. UI/UX Design: Understanding of user interface design principles and how they apply to training simulations. Familiarity with instructional design principles and how to create content that supports learning and development. Strong analytical skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues related to performance, visuals, and interactions. Creative problem solver with an ability to implement innovative solutions to meet specific training objectives. Strong communication skills to collaborate with both technical and non-technical teams, including subject matter experts and instructional designers. Ability to take feedback and iterate quickly on simulations and training scenarios. Obtain a working knowledge of the ABS Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental Management Systems.
