About the Indiana Department of Health (IDOH): The Indiana Department of Health’s mission is to promote, protect, and improve the health and safety of all Hoosiers so that they can reach their optimal health regardless of where they live, learn, work, or play. Role Overview: This position involves managing complex projects and data processes including data extraction from a relational database, methodology development, analysis, and creation and dissemination of data visualizations to support the Immunization Division. This position provides direct supervision and support of two staff on the Data and Research team (Data Analyst and Data Support Specialist) and is responsible for coordinating the work of the team. This position works to automate processes for day-to-day tasks using the most up-to-date programming packages in R, SQL, and Tableau. Salary Statement: The salary for this position traditionally starts at $75,010.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience. A Day in the Life: The essential functions of this role are as follows: + Plan, conduct, and direct epidemiologic studies and urgent outbreak investigations. + Lead a team of epidemiologists in a defined program area. + Designs, prepares, and reviews reports from analysis of surveillance data, literature reviews, and other information. + Orally present to diverse audiences. + Provide guidance and information to other IDOH divisions, local health departments, health care providers, and other entities while responding to outbreaks and clusters of disease. + Support maintenance and informatics activities to ensure enhance surveillance activities are ongoing. + Serve as a subject matter expert for health care providers, local health department staff, and the general public. + Manage and participate in assigned sections of grants and cooperative agreements. + Conduct educational presentations and/or trainings for a variety of audiences, including local health departments, health care providers, veterinarians, and the general public. + If applicable for program area, serve as the IDOH epidemiologist on call after business hours for approximately two to three weeks per year. + Some essential functions of this position may be performed onsite at the agency’s worksite or other assigned worksites while some essential functions of this position may be eligible for work from home authorization in accordance with policy. Remote work authorization is not automatic and is dependent upon operational needs and agency approval. This position is exempt from overtime compensation for additional work hours which may be required to complete essential functions or other assigned work. Exempt employees may work more than 75 hours in a pay period without additional compensation and must report a minimum of 75 hours per pay period of work hours and/or paid leave taken to receive their base biweekly salary. What You'll Need for Success: You must meet the following requirement to be considered for employment: + A master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., public health, biological sciences, or social sciences) and ≥ 4 years’ relevant public health experience OR + A master’s degree or higher in a non-relevant field and ≥ 5 years’ relevant public health experience OR + A doctoral-level degree in epidemiology or other relevant field and ≥ 2 years’ relevant public health experience OR + A graduate or professional degree in a health-related field (e.g., RN, MD/DO, DDS/DMD, DVM, PhD, RS) with specific epidemiology training (e.g., MPH degree, CDC Epidemic Intelligence Service, or CSTE Applied Epidemiology Fellowship) and ≥ 2 years’ relevant public health experience OR + A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and ≥ 6 years’ relevant public health experience OR + A bachelor’s degree in a non-relevant field and ≥ 8 years’ relevant public health experience. + Current employee promotion requirement: Internal candidate should be a high-performing Epidemiologist E7 or other internal role based on demonstrated ability, competency attainment, and/or performance feedback. + Apply principle of informatics, including data collection, processing, and analysis, in support of epidemiologic practice. + Lead epidemiologic studies, public health programs, and community public health planning process at the state and local level. + Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, using principles of risk communication where appropriate. + Able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation. Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports: This role may serve as a team lead for an assigned work group.
