Immunohistochemistry Development Tech

UPMC Presbyterian is hiring a full-time Immunohistochemistry Development Tech to support the Histology Lab! This role will be scheduled for daylight shifts Monday thru Friday with rotating holiday on-call responsibilities.

Responsibilities:

Initiate development and deployment of new antibodies in the laboratory based on physician need for patient care. Instruct faculty, fellows, residents and selected technical personnel in techniques and concepts likely to be used in the IHC lab. Supervise the preparation of immunohistochemical dilutions for optimal staining. Troubleshoot the monitoring of the proper operation, maintenance, and cleaning of all IHC equipment used in the lab with a complete understanding of equipment function. Maintain the immunohistochemistry area of the laboratory according to the standards and requirements of the College of American Pathologists, Joint Committee for the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, and all other local and federal governing agencies. Keep abreast of literature and test novel antibodies for possible application in daily practice. Continuously update and oversee current antibodies, and investigate for improved methods of staining with current antibodies, as well as different titers, etc. Supervise and oversee the maintenance and update of the immunoperoxidase manuals continuously for the proper and efficient operation of the area. Develop, evaluate, implement and perform new methodology and antibody staining techniques. Assist the supervisor in identifying variations and methods to correct problem areas and control the immunohistochemistry area’s productivity and utilization of time and workflow. Prepare the monthly QA reports of the immunohistochemistry area. Initiate and oversee the teaching and training of technicians, new personnel and students. Keep abreast of new developments in the field of IHC and pursue self development programs. Organize work schedules and tasks daily to coordinate the workflow of developmental and validation work being done in the laboratory. Oversee the implementation, validation and evaluation of all new equipment used in the IHC area.
