Implementation Manager (1st Shift) - Scottsdale/Remote

Overview:

This position is responsible to plan, manage and execute implementation projects.  This role plans, executes, monitors and provides direction to project resources (internal and external) to ensure successful implementations of operations that meet APL Logistics and customer expectations.  This role also serves as project resource to his/her projects or to other projects based on his/ her expertise and skill set.

The Implementations Manager applies the best form of project management (Standard or Agile) to meet expectations will require the position to balance project resources with the right skills and experiences to execute against plans.   This role is expected to manage/support a few projects simultaneously.

There is an expectation that a body of knowledge currently exists or will be obtained through training and practice in the person taking on the role.  The base knowledge consists of project cost management, schedule management, risk management, communications, scope management, resource management.

A portfolio tool must be kept updated and accurate to reflect the projects under this position’s leadership and guidance. This position may have direct reports, and it is responsible for the performance and professional development and career guidance of those reports.  This position is also responsible to manage assigned project resources from other functional areas and vendors at local and regional level during the duration of a given project.   

This role reports to the Americas Region Portfolio Manager.

This position is responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

Delivery of New Operations Revenue Streams:

Lead multiple projects in a matrixed environment by partnering with subject matter experts in operations, technology, human resources, finance, legal, and other functional teams internal to APL Logistics and external with customers and additional service providers.  Relationship management with operations and commercial teams to provide value in the pursuit of new opportunities or the expansion of services for existing customers. Developing commercial content; cost estimate, timelines, project structures, etc. for responses to customer proposals. The development or oversight of project timelines that demonstrate a realistic path from project initiation through go-live of services, and transition to ongoing operations. Estimation or oversight of estimations for project cost of project implementation, and can include investments in time, facility infrastructure, technology, one-time expenses, or capital. Management or oversight of cost from acceptance through project implementation with the ability to estimate variance at completion. Defining, documenting, and evaluating risks associated with a project and the creation of a risk management plan to either avoid, mitigate, or transfer risk. Project status reporting that delivers an accurate assessment of a projects health and is easily interpreted by executive leadership. Integration of project documents with external customers and service providers, so plans represent the project in total, not just the APL Logistics elements. Communications at the project team member level and the senior leadership level may require multiple communication methods. Maintain a portfolio management tool that accurately reflects the projects being worked, the overall status of each, a high-level timeline, and who is leading.

Delivery of Integrated Operational Solutions:

This position is responsible for leading the implementation efforts for the integrated solutions for domestic logistics services. This role is responsible for leading project team activities and efforts in validating and monitoring quality of project deliverables and/or service being delivered as result of project implementation. This position directly coordinates with APLL commercial and operational teams and customer client teams on the analysis of customer business and operational requirements for all CLS/LTS projects for the Americas region. This individual plays a lead role in the design and project management of business integration solutions: facility, operations, processes, and technology and systems application solutions. This position will lead and manage cross functional teams from APLL domestic operations (CLS/ LTS), APLL and client technology teams, client operations teams, and as well as vendor teams.

Capabilities and Competence:

This position leads the efforts to bring innovative and enhanced system solutions to the operations.  This role will collaborate with technology, engineering, and vendor teams in the development of cost-effective system solutions to optimize APLL domestic operations. This position leads the facilitation of functional and technical workshops among cross-functional teams. This position leads the facilitation of functional and technical workshops among cross functional teams This role leads the operational process and requirements analysis, as well as the coordination and the development of business requirements for new integrated solutions and enhancements. This role leads and coordinates the development and documentation of business use cases. This position leads the planning, coordination and execution of training programs to all facility personnel in preparation for WMS, TMS and any related interfaces or ancillary systems implementations. This role provides on-site support for go-lives. Escalate issues to facility and management as necessary. This position liaises with and escalate to system configuration specialists, quality specialists, developers or other application or infrastructure support as necessary. This role plays an active role leading the development and documentation of WMS and any related interfaces or ancillary systems processes and procedures. This includes general Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as well as site or customer specific processes and procedures. This role plays an active role planning, coordinating, and monitoring the execution of user acceptance tests. This role is responsible to monitor and manage integrated system solution project scope.  This position leads the design and development of change management programs APLL deploys as it prepares labor force, supervisors, and managers to take on new operations, system deployment, system upgrades, new technology deployment or process improvements plans. This position manages and maintains training programs and documentation to support APLL CLS network super users and key users.

Work with APLL existing project management tools and templates, maintain and enhance. Develop new and cost-effective solutions through innovation and collaboration with other areas. Adhere to APLL POMs and guidelines for the onboarding of new customer and meet the financial indicators approved by corporate and regional head and local owner LOB. Collaborate with other functional areas in the development of flexible, suitable, innovative, and cost-effective engineered solutions Documented and agreed to project scope and controlled to prevent scope creep without financial protections. Delivery of customer supply chain strategies within agreed timelines, but accounting for changes agreed to through documented change management processes. Risk management plans that reduce financial exposure through risk responses that are agreed to by APLL and customers. Cost control systems capturing planned cost and comparing against actual that predict outcome at the end of a project.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, Supply Chain preferred or equivalent degree Languages: English (verbal and writing).  Spanish is a plus. At least 10 years of combined experience in domestic supply chain: Warehousing and transportation. At least 5 years of proven start-up experience on Warehousing and Order Fulfilment: facility set up, training, user acceptance testing and Go Live support. At least 5 years of proven experience with Manhattan WMi: operating, training, testing, troubleshooting – Experience with implementing and / or operating with other WMS will be considered. Experience with Labor Management Systems preferred. At least 5 years of experience managing/ supporting multiple projects.   Project Management credentials: preferable PMP® from the Project Management Institute. Detail-oriented, highly organized, with the ability to handle communications, reporting, status reports, issues logs, for multiple projects/ customers simultaneously. Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment handling multiple projects simultaneously. Strong communication skills to support weekly status call, steering committee meetings, customer presentations, etc.  Strong public speaking skills to prepare and deliver oral presentations internally and with customer teams.

Requirements:

Ability to work remotely, autonomously. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to travel within country and outside of the country to support meetings and/ or projects when required. Ability to train others. The candidate must function in a fast-paced project environment, and lead and collaborate in the development of integrated solutions for existing operations as well as for new customers. Excellent analytical, problem solving, conflict resolution, and decision-making skills. Experience in the implementation of supply chain strategies through standard project management or Agile methodologies. Experience in the global logistics industry preferably in warehousing services, freight forwarding services, domestic transportation services. The ability to travel for customer engagements and project related work. Continued education for obtaining and maintaining professional credentials in project management. Demonstrated written and verbal communications skills at all levels of an organization.

Candidates must be within 250 miles of an APL Logistics facility or office.

The typical starting salary range for this position is: $88,130 - $129,296.

The actual salary offer will take into account multiple factors including skills, experience, education and location. Please note that the salary details listed in role postings reflect the base salary only, not total compensation, which includes bonus and benefits.
