Import Logistics Specialist

Summary of the Role:

As part of the Logistics Operations team, IMEA, the Import Logistics Specialist will be accountable to work with Lubrizol’s Intercompany planning teams, Procurement (for raw material imports) and external LSP’s (Logistics Service Providers) to ensure timely delivery of inbound shipments and improve Lubrizol’s import logistics reliability. This function will lead the logistics management for all imports, closely monitor demurrage and detention for all imports and seek opportunities for cost improvements. This function as well will support regional projects across Business segments in function of existing and future needs. Ensure safety, productivity, and compliance with international and regional regulations.



Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement efficient inbound logistics processes for seamless import operations, coordinating with freight forwarders for Air, LCL, FCL, and ISO shipments.
• Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the timely release of cargo, including customs clearance, freight release, and on-time delivery to the final destination.
• Conduct thorough reviews and approvals of import checklists to maintain compliance and operational accuracy.
• Track and manage Lubrizol shipments to minimize dwell time at ports and storage facilities, ensuring smooth material flow.
• Evaluate and enhance logistics service providers’ (LSPs) performance, identifying opportunities for optimization and efficiency.
• Support the selection and onboarding of LSPs by assessing capabilities, compliance, and service quality.
• Analyze import logistics metrics and drive continuous improvements to accelerate material movement and reduce overall cycle time.
• Proactively manage detention costs on Lubrizol imports, implementing strategies to minimize delays and associated expenses.
• Manage carrier performance and lead issue resolution efforts to maintain service reliability and efficiency.
• Conduct regular performance reviews of Customs House Brokers (CHAs) to ensure compliance, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness in customs operations.
 

Requirements (education, experience, competencies and specific job requirements):

Education & Certification
• Diploma or Bachelor’s degree required

• Any supply chain related certification or degree is a plus.

 

Experience & Skills:

 

A minimum of 5 years’ experience in import logistics operations, preferably within the chemical industry.  Must have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment where attention to detail, ability to prioritize, organize, and follow through is essential. Must possess strong interpersonal skills and professionalism. This position will interface with logistics team members and internal customers and business partners on a regular basis. Demonstrated proficiency in SAP and MS office tools. Enthusiastic, diplomatic and possess excellent organizational and problem-solving skills. Team player.
