Improvement Engineer

The Improvement Engineer will apply engineering and Lean Six Sigma knowledge and concepts to identify, scope, and manage projects and activities that will improve process control and overall plant efficiency. The position requires the ability to build strong working relationships and communicate effectively with plant personnel and management to effectively identify and execute the activities. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are also required.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Apply engineering knowledge to the manufacturing processes to identify improvement opportunities. Perform root cause analysis to reduce process variability Utilize statistical analysis and software tools to evaluate manufacturing data Prepare written justifications for approved capital expenditures (ACEs) Play a key role in advancing CCM’s lean journey across the organization Facilitate events and meetings focused on manufacturing improvements and cost reduction Track and report project savingsEssential Duties (% of time/month):
Coordinate and manage numerous teams and projects to execute and sustain improvement projects (35%) Identify and prioritize potential manufacturing improvement projects in responsible plants (25%) Attend and facilitate Kaizen and other continuous improvement events throughout the organization (15-20%) Work with the COS team to further drive the overall COS journey to establish a culture of continuous improvement throughout CCM (15%) Research and prepare written justifications for capital expenditures (<10%)
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Operational understanding of manufacturing, business software systems, business systems functions and how they inter-relate, and customer expectations. Proficient understanding of fundamental Lean tools including, but not limited to, Value Stream Mapping, 5S, Mistake Proofing, TPM, MDI, Root Cause Analysis, etc. Strong understanding of Six Sigma tools and approach including, but not limited to, DMAIC, Measurement System Analysis, Statistical Process Control (SPC), Process Capability, Experimental Design (DOE), etc. Effective project and time management techniques Working knowledge of various software systems including Microsoft Office, SAP, Minitab, Wonderware, etc.
Education and Experience:
Education – BS degree, preferably in Industrial, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering. Lean Champion Certification and Six Sigma Green/Black Belt is a plus. Experience – 2+ years of experience in a Lean Six Sigma enterprise or equivalent educational experience.
Working Conditions:
Generally, office-type environments along with plant settings. Shop Floor work areas in the plants may be dirty, dusty and hotter or colder than office settings.
