What You'll Do:
As a Improvement Engineer (Automation & Process Controls), you'll be at the forefront of our innovation by managing Instrumentation and Controls systems for the Spartanburg facility. The Improvement Engineer (Automation & Process Controls) will supplement capital project engineering for E&I scopes. Supports operations and maintenance activities for E&I scope
What We're Looking For:
Support plant and Lubrizol CI initiatives in the plant including 4-step Problem Solving, mistake proofing, standard work and 5S initiatives. Manage the plant controls systems network, infrastructure, and software. Ensure hardware, programming and controls meets standards for performance, reliability, and safety. Create software design specifications and implement new control strategies in support of new products, processes, and systems. Integrate Management of change and the safeguards for PSM processes into the controls systems. Design and manage the DCS data reporting systems to provide utilities, metrics, and quality information to plant management. Design, implement and support S88 batch control applications. Support Operations as a primary customer. Identify opportunities for efficiency and manpower reduction through automation. Support trouble shooting of interface between programming and instrumentation. Support process improvement activity at the Spartanburg Plant to assimilate new technologies and improve the performance of existing production processes. Participate in Capital Engineering. Identify, justify, and manage E&I capital projects including budgeting, specification of equipment, schedule, management of contractors, commissioning, and acceptance by Operations management. Ensure E&I equipment and processes are safe and PSM compliant. Evaluate E&I modifications and process changes for hazards. Identify and communicate safety issues to HSES department. Monitor and ensure that current productivity goals are reached through the implementation of approved capital projects and work design processes. Specify and approve E&I equipment and vendors. Assist operations in training and documentation of programming and controls for new and improved equipment and processes. Design and plan measurement and control systems for manufacturing. Participate in the development and implementation of preventative and predictive maintenance programs. Provide engineering support to maintenance and I&E technicians. Participate in plant improvement efforts and ensure continuous improvement of the productivity, reliability, safety, quality and effectiveness of the systems and processes. Establish and cultivate strong relationships with other departments, ensuring strong collaboration while pursuing performance targets and overcoming obstacles with the broader team.
Skills That Make a Difference:
Bachelor’s degree in chemical, electrical, or controls engineering, or a related field. 5 years of experience in process control or related engineering role. Previous experience working in a chemical manufacturing environment. Experience with DeltaV DCS & Rockwell PLC control systems. Experience with process instrumentation such as level, temperature, pressure, flow, pH, and automatic valves. Experience with OSI PI Vision. Working knowledge of SAP enterprise software, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, Microsoft PowerPoint and Microsoft Outlook. Working knowledge of ISA terminology and standards. Demonstrated working knowledge of industry standards and regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA, NFPA) relevant process control. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Excellent communication, teamwork, planning, and organizational skills.
