In-House Counsel - Construction and Commercial
We are pleased to partner with Skanska UK as they look for a Construction Lawyer to join their Legal team. About Skanska: Skanska, one of the world's leading project development and construction groups, is an inclusive and responsible business that is helping to build a better society. Known for working on major projects, Skanska UK is building, upgrading, and maintaining the country's infrastructure for future generations. Led by award winning Executive Vice President, Swati Paul, this established and highly regarded Legal team is seeking to add an additional lawyer to their ranks. The Legal team carries out all of the work on behalf of Skanska, ensuring a varied workload which has a real impact on the business. What you'll do: · Provision of proactive and practical early legal advice to the Skanska business divisions, to help them achieve their goals in the commercial environment in which they operate. · Become a key trusted advisor to project commercial teams in negotiating complex projects. · Follow up support to assist in the implementation of solutions to achieve those goals (e.g. assist in negotiation of documentation to close/complete the transaction and then offer "after care" follow up legal support until project has been built/concluded and full payment recovered.). · Proactively learn other areas of law as needed. · Assist the team with standard documents, training, policies, and guidance. · Develop relationships across the business so that Legal are involved early and fully. · Work closely with the commercial directors/personnel and project personnel generally. · Provide/assist in the provision of workshops, seminars, etc. · Collaborate with colleagues from Skanska Group as needed. · Proactive and early involvement with relevant areas of the business. · Ensure transfer knowledge/best practice. What you'll bring to the role: · Qualified UK lawyer. · Mid-ranking/ senior with good construction/commercial law experience. · Experience of drafting documents, policies, and guidance documents · Confident communication skills with all levels of the business with the ability to professionally deal with objection. · Good understanding of the fundamentals of construction and services contracts. · Ability to advise on commercial contracts. · Willingness to learn new skills and areas of law. · Good understanding and experience of the forms of contracts (NEC/JCT) commonly used and associated case law. · Good understanding of construction techniques and processes. · An ability to deliver a legal service to a business in a form they can readily understand and use. · An ability to argue our case in formal negotiations in a logical and articulate manner. · An understanding of the basic commercial management processes that should be employed on a project. · An understanding of risk and risk identification and management techniques.
