As a Macintosh Product Design Engineer you will be responsible for designing the next generation of Apple computers, both portable and desktop. Your responsibilities as Mechanical engineers is to design next generation of input device products, portable and desktop computers, and modules to support the Mac and iOS product lines. Your responsibilities will span from technology development, concept generation to detailed design, analysis and testing through mass production ramp. developing initial product layouts and new technology concepts detailed design of mechanisms and sensors support technology investigations and development building prototypes to validate function, manufacturability, and robustness perform FEA or coordinate FEA activities to evaluate and optimize design concepts analyze data generated from builds and lab experiments participate in design reviews to generate and receive constructive feedback perform tolerance analyses to predict performance of mechanisms, sensors, and cosmetic create specifications, detailed design and 2D documentation of all parts and assemblies work with operations teams to evaluate and develop supply chains capable of manufacturing new subsystems and products interacting with vendors to develop manufacturing processes and tooling concepts define testing requirements and equipment and analyze the data produced support build activities including finding root cause for failures and solutions for issues that impede build progressMinimum QualificationsMinimum QualificationsBS and above in Mechanical engineering or 3+ years of experience in mechanical designfundamentals of engineering: strength of materials, material science, statics, heat transfergood knowledge in design skills: tolerance analysis, mechanism designdesign validation skills: identifying critical requirements and test methods to evaluate designs against them, strong failure analysis skillscomputer aided design (CAD) skills: 3D CAD experience required(NX preferred), 2D drafting and GD&Texcellent communication skills: both written and verbal communicationKey QualificationsKey QualificationsPreferred QualificationsPreferred Qualificationscreative problem solving, diligence in finding the best solution for each design challenge, excellent spatial reasoning skills, attention to detailgood knowledge in design skills: design for assembly/manufacturability, simple fixture design, design considerations for high volume manufacturing, understanding of Statistical Process Controls (SPC), understanding of metrology (basic knowledge of measurement systems)broad range of materials and processes: metal machining basics, plastic injection/compression molding basics, designing with metals, designing with polymers, sheet metal design, material finishing basicsfamiliarity with electrical engineering fundamentals and interconnect technologies is preferreddesign validation skills: Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), large data set analysis and computer-aided data analysis, Design of Experiments (DOE), Finite Element Analysis (FEA), and mechanical prototypingcomputer aided design (CAD) Skills: data exchange and working with printed circuit board (PCB) and flexible printed circuit (FPC), eCAD, electrical mechanical control outline (MCO) generationbuild support experience in factoryexperience working in a team environment and be self motivated to identify and close design issuesproficiency with high volume manufacturing processes is desired strong consideration will be given to those with a proven track record in precision mechanism and sensor designindustry experiences from medical, consumer electronics, automotive, aerospace and other fields with relevant technology and development modelsApple is an equal opportunity employer that is committed to inclusion and diversity, and thus we treat all applicants fairly and equally.
