Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for an Indigenous Community Health Centre Coordinator to join the Indigenous Mental Health and Support Vancouver Community team. Apply today to join our team!

This position is part of the new Indigenous Crisis Response Team (ICRT) at VCH. The ICRT provides a non-police crisis response outreach services to individuals in the inner city who are experiencing a mental health and/or substance use crisis that cannot be resolved by their regular care provider or alternate crisis services. ICRT is a voluntary, non-police healthcare service that leads with cultural safety and sees individuals in encampments, shelters, or in their homes.

 

As an Indigenous Cultural Practitioner with VCH you will:

Work in a team based environment in conjunction with the Program Manager and will be in charge with managing the facility support operations, functions and resources including supervising the work activities of designated staff for specified programs and services within the community health centre.Monitor construction contracts for the site, participate in the planning and coordination of clerical and administrative support activities/services, assisting the Program Manager with administrative activities and optimal use of resources, developing, and instructing staff in the use of new protocols and procedures, ensuring physical space of the site is safe and secure, preparing reports based on compiled financial and statistical records. Qualifications

Education & Experience

Completion of Grade 12 supplemented by a recognized diploma, certificate, or degree in businessFive (5) years’ recent related experienceTwo (2) years supervisory experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.Pursuant to Section 41 of the British Columbia Human Rights Code, preference will be given to individuals of Indigenous identity (First Nations, Inuit, Metis).

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Comprehensive knowledge and demonstrated ability to provide culturally safe care, has completed Indigenous Cultural Safety Training.Demonstrated understanding and in-depth knowledge of First Nations, Inuit, and Metis Peoples and history.Demonstrated understanding of provincial and federal guiding principles and documents, for example In Plain Sight report, and calls to action to eliminate systemic racism in the health care sector.Demonstrated ability to identify and recognize current health care system gaps and barriers for Indigenous individuals and communities seeking health care.Demonstrated ability to identify and recognize power inequities within the healthcare system associated with ongoing impacts of colonialism.Excellent time management and organization skills combined with the ability to prioritize and to balance the workload requirements of multiple management positions while ensuring routine needs are met and with minimal supervision.Ability to supervise.Excellent verbal and written communication skills and effective interpersonal skills.Considerable knowledge of current business office management, methods, and procedures, including knowledge of financial statements and the ability to monitor budgets.Ability to keyboard 6000 strokes per hour.Ability to type 50 wpm.Demonstrated intermediate level proficiency in word processing and use of advanced computer software programs that includes Excel and Microsoft Spreadsheet applications.Ability to make decisions in accordance with applicable policies and procedures and to explain and interpret the same.Demonstrated knowledge, experience in community health services environment and working with multiple collective agreements.Physical ability to perform the duties of the position. Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks.
