Indirect Tax Accountant

Remote Opportunity - Preference for candidates based in Vancouver

The Indirect Tax Accountant plays an essential role in growing talent in our business through collaboration and sharing best practices with the Accounting and wider Finance team. You know how to be curious about opportunities and how to be real with feedback and support.

As the Indirect Tax Accountant, you will be a key player on the finance team and ensure that all day operations and inquiries flow smoothly. You will ensure all sales taxes are filed on time for all 270 retail stores in Canada, Puerto Rico and the USA. You will work closely with the tax and accounting teams, which are focused on serving different business teams, including Digital, Retail, Manufacturing, and Admin/Corporate.

Reporting to the Tax Manager, the Indirect Tax Accountant undertakes the following RESPONSIBILITIES:

Prepare monthly complex sales tax calculations, journal entries and reconciliations required for accurate tax reporting utilizing the sales tax software and coordinate the remittance payments Prepare the state/city excise tax returns including business & occupancy tax returns, gross receipts tax returns, commerce tax returns and annual business tax returns, as required Support and gather information for the sales and use tax notices and audits (internal and external) Collaborate with the business to ensure sales tax compliance for all store openings, relocation, closures, and new initiatives and renew seller tax permits If based in Vancouver, monitor mailroom and group emails for seller tax permit renewals, notices and audits Participate and assist with any ad hoc tax and finance responsibilities

You bring the following Qualifications:

Required:

Minimum 2 years of accounting and tax experience Proven organizational skills with an attention to accuracy and detail Proactive approach and initiative Effective communication skills Ability to multitask and prioritize Can work effectively in a time-pressured environment Excellent Microsoft Office and Google application skills A model of honesty, openness, transparency, and integrity in every dimension of your role Flexible around assigned tasks and committed to the broader objective of the team

Preferred:

Undergraduate Degree in business and pursuit of an accounting designation Experience with Avalara sales tax software an asset Experience with Microsoft Dynamics AX ERP
