Job Description:
3M is seeking an Industrial Controls / Software Engineer for its Plant Operations Division team, located in Brockville, ON.
*Successful security clearance under the Canadian Controlled Goods Registration program is a mandatory pre-requirement for this position at this location. Please note the following are some (but not all) of the listed requirements for Controlled Goods Clearance:
+ Must be a Canadian citizen normally residing in Canada, or must be a Permanent Resident normally residing in Canada
+ Must have valid and current identification (i.e.: driver’s license, passport, birth certificate)
+ Must be able to provide a residential address and employment history of the past 5 years
+ If applicable, living outside of Canada during the past five years will require an international criminal name check
The Impact You’ll Make in this Role
As an Industrial Controls / Software engineer you will develop and support custom 3M manufacturing execution systems in an end-to-end automated manufacturing process. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
+ Use of C++ programming environment to support and continue development of existing material routing / SCADA system.
+ Support servo-based motion control systems as well as participate in key upgrades of existing servo platforms
+ Optimize and support manufacturing equipment with a variety of industrial programming languages.
+ Develop with the mentorship of a senior multi-disciplinary manufacturing team.
+ Identify new and creative ways to improve manufacturing processes
+ Troubleshoot industrial controls platforms of various generations
+ Leads software and hardware upgrades
+ Implements manufacturing efficiency improvements
+ Support a 24/7 production environment
Your Skills and expertise
To set you up for success in this role from Day 1, 3M requires (at minimum) the following qualifications:
+ College diploma in an engineering or computer science discipline (completed and verified prior to start) and a minimum of three (3) years of programming experience (including C,C++, any other similar computer software languages) in a private, public, government or military environment
OR
+ Bachelor’s degree (completed and verified prior to start) and a minimum of three (3) years of programming experience (including C,C++, any other similar computer software languages)
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
+ Being comfortable at learning new programming languages
+ Five (5) years of programming experience (preferably including C,C++, any other similar computer software languages)
+ Experience in manufacturing in a private, public, government or military environment
+ C, C++, C#, VB, SQL, IEC industrial control languages (ladder, function block, structured text)
+ Schneider Control Expert, Yaskawa Motion Works, RSLogix 5000, Studio 5000
+ Skills include troubleshooting both hardware and software
Work location:
+ Primarily on-site in Brockville Ontario
Travel: May include up to 5% domestic
Relocation Assistance: May be authorized
