Marmon is now seeking an Industrial Data & Automation Engineer to join the team at our Corporate Innovation lab located inside mHub Chicago (https://mhubchicago.com/). Reporting to the Sr. Manager of Automation Support, this newly created role will be part of a flexible team of engineers who work with business units to accelerate implementation of factory automation. As part of Marmon’s Innovation team, you’ll have the opportunity to work across all of our 140+ subsidiary companies and get exposure to a wide variety of businesses, processes, and people.What you’ll do:
Visit and assess Marmon owned factories in North America to evaluate potential automation opportunities.Research automation technologies and solutions for a specified application. Compare technologies based on cost, functionality, lead time, support level, etc.Prototype technologies and processes in our lab for the purpose of developing and proving out complex processesUse learnings from site visits and prototype system builds to write bid specs. These will include comprehensive functional and process requirements, integration terms, etc.Host RFP’s and evaluate bidsAssist in project management efforts from scope development through system delivery.Knowledge transfer of learnings to factory support staffMaintain project budgets and scheduleWork on 2-4 projects simultaneouslyWork in a regular hybrid arrangement – some days in the office and some days from home#LI-DNI
What you’ll bring to the role:
1-2 years' work experience in engineeringBachelor’s or master's engineering or engineering technology degreeDirect experience creating / building robotic systems, OR strong cross discipline experience in mechanical, electrical, and imbedded software (PLC or other)Desire for occasional hands-on workComfortable in ambiguous situations where requirements may be unclearComfortable in factory environmentsAbility to work independently and in a team environmentKnowledge of LEAN principlesKnowledge of / interest in Industrial IoTWorking knowledge of Solidworks, Fusion 360, other CAD packagesBasic understanding of wiring diagrams and electrical safety20% to 30% travel, domesticStrong organizational skillsPay Range:
