Job Summary
This position is responsible for troubleshooting and repairing electrical and control systems, including programmable logic controllers (PLCs), variable frequency drives (VFDs), sensors, and other control devices. It also involves performing mechanical repairs to ensure the plant operates efficiently. The role includes minor equipment programming, control system modifications, and troubleshooting both electrical and mechanical equipment to maintain production efficiency.
Duties and Responsibilities
Diagnose and repair malfunctioning electrical and control systems, including PLCs, VFDs, sensors, components, and mechanical equipment to minimize downtime. Inspect electrical systems and equipment to identify hazards, defects, and the need for repairs, ensuring compliance with all relevant codes. Install electrical components following safety codes and best practices. Perform repairs on safety-related equipment safely and efficiently. Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical and electronic wiring, equipment, and other components. Conduct routine preventative maintenance (PM) and repair electrical and mechanical equipment. Respond to urgent or emergency situations as needed. Perform mechanical work and making safe and reliable repairs. Order electrical and control supplies and spare parts as necessary. Complete maintenance records and PM reports and document any unusual conditions or additional work needed. Observe all safety regulations and follow the company’s good manufacturing practices (GMPs). Maintain records accurately and on time. Properly store supplies, lubricants, cleaners, and other materials. Keep work areas clean, organized, and well-maintained. Perform lock-out/tag-out procedures as required. May perform additional duties as assigned.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
At least 2 to 5 years of experience troubleshooting and repairing PLCs, VFDs, and other control devices, as well as electrical and mechanical systems in an industrial environment. A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Trade school or other electrical training is preferred. Knowledge of lock-out/tag-out procedures and safety policies. Strong knowledge of heavy industrial electrical and mechanical maintenance practices. Proficient in troubleshooting and repairing 3-phase motor control systems, including motor control centers. Experience with 480V 3-phase electrical systems and power feeder circuits. Ability to read schematics and calculate wire size and motor horsepower requirements for new installations. Proficiency in using schematics and ladder logic to troubleshoot PLCs, soft starts, and motor control circuits. Experience programming Allen Bradley PLCs, VFDs, and control systems. Strong organizational skills, with the ability to complete tasks promptly and safely. Good communication skills for coordinating with other team members to ensure smooth operations. Familiarity with using computers and systems like SAP or CMMS to manage tasks.Work Environment
This position requires knowledge of industrial environments. Must be available for overtime, including weekends and holidays, to address urgent issues. Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), such as hard hats, steel-toed shoes, safety glasses, high-visibility clothing, gloves, and arc-rated apparel. Work is performed in environments with varying temperatures, humidity, noise, and dust. Some tasks involve working near machinery, energized power cables, and at heights using a full-body harness. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and safely ascend/descend ladders.
