The University of Miami Health (UHealth) System IT Department has an opportunity for a full-time Industrial Engineer - IT Optimization.
The Industrial Engineer - IT Optimization models complex business problems, discovers business insights, and identifies opportunities using advanced statistical, algorithmic, mining and visualization techniques. Manages and supports initiatives that facilitate and improve the delivery of information technology. Identifies opportunities for the design of new processes considering different innovative methodologies that will help achieve operational excellence within the University. Coordinates personnel and resources required to successfully complete projects. Collaborates with cross-functional teams to promote best practices in process improvement, process design, and metrics.
Core Responsibilities:
Analyzes established systems, methods, practices and procedures to evaluate their effectiveness utilizing existing information and makes recommendations for improved processes and procedures.Integrates and prepares large, varied datasets, architects specialized database and computing environments and communicates results. Identifies improvement opportunities within a designated initiative using data and statistical models to support the findings and proposed optimization strategies.Utilizes data driven techniques to push variation reduction, process improvement and supports executive reporting of project outcomes. Develops analytics to help support initiatives that drive financial and operational improvement, as well as developing machine learning predictive analytics models by applying advanced statistical and computational methods to solve more complex issues.Integrates people, equipment, facilities and other resources to improve work results, operating efficiency, effectiveness, productivity and/or adaptation to new requirements.Enhances University processes to maintain efficiency, reduce costs, and improve sustainability.Develops and recommends configurations for optimized processes from inception through to start-up.Develops and deploys tools and methodologies for process design and optimization throughout the University.Supports various functions by gathering critical data points and creating KPIs aligned to business goals.Performs root cause analysis on key issues and participates in future state of process design.Develops, manages, and reports progress of initiatives using process improvement tools such as Quality Functional Deployment (QFD), current and future state Value Stream Maps and project management tools, leveraging industry vs. business standards, policies, and best practices.Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.Department Specific Functions:
Leverages quantitative and qualitative data analysis, stakeholder engagement, and Six Sigma methodologies to analyze the current and desired states.Conducts thorough process analyses, utilizing tools such as process mapping to identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and areas for improvement.Facilitates effective communication and collaboration with stakeholders across the organization to gather feedback, understand pain points, and ensure alignment with business objectives.Drives the implementation of data-driven recommendations and process improvements, ensuring effective change management and measurable results.Mentors interns and other IT staff who wish to learn more about process optimization.This list of duties and responsibilities is not intended to be all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties or responsibilities as necessary.
CORE QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field – Industrial Engineering preferred.Six Sigma certification preferredMinimum 5 years of relevant experience.At least one year working on process optimization, including stakeholder engagement and process re-engineering.Excellent analytical skills requiredExcellent written and verbal communication skills requiredAbility to communicate issues based on data and visualizationsAbility to communicate with technical and non-technical audiencesSkill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.Commitment to the University’s core values.Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.Proficiency in computer software (i.e., Microsoft Office).Any relevant education, certifications and/or work experience may be considered.
