Summary You will serve as a INDUSTRIAL HYGIENIST in the INDUSTRIAL HYGIENE DEPARTMENT of NMRTC TWENTY NINE PALMS CA. This announcement uses the Certain Personnel of the DoD Direct Hire Authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. Responsibilities You will perform duties encompassing all phases of the Industrial Hygiene Program as specified by Department of Defense. You will evaluate the need for quantitative assessment of ventilation systems, air contamination, noise and other physical stressors. You will recommend engineering controls to correct Industrial Hygiene deficiencies. You will recommend medical surveillance for employees who are potentially over exposed to hazardous materials, noise, and physical hazards. You will provide consultation and advice to activities on occupational health problems and concerns. You will provide on-the-job technical guidance to on-site junior Industrial Hygienists and Industrial Hygiene Technicians in carrying out inspections, surveys and samplings. You will investigate health problems that arise among workers. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, To qualify for the GS-12 grade level, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience performing industrial hygiene inspections, surveys, and evaluations Experience researching chemical and toxicological literature to obtain a valid and complete Industrial Hygiene evaluation Experience evaluating the results of Industrial Hygiene sampling to determine if occupational exposures exceed published health standards Experience providing detailed reports of IH survey findings including hazard assessment, exposure monitoring, and controls Experience utilizing automated information systems (e.g., Defense Occupational Environmental Health Readiness System - Industrial Hygiene (DOEHRS-IH), or similar systems to enter environmental health surveillance and workplace environmental monitoring data To qualify for the GS-11 grade level, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the gs-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Education Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must; Have successfully completed Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science that was accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time my degree was obtained. (Note - Courses in the history or teaching of chemistry are not acceptable) or, Have successfully completed a Bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene. The degree was accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time my degree was obtained.
