Join us! **Job Summary** The Industrial Hygienist is responsible for providing strategic and technical guidance on key programs related to occupational health and hygiene. The role is accountable for coordinating program implementation, collecting stakeholder feedback, supporting training with field personnel and supervisors, as well as conducting and handling occupational hygiene exposure assessments. The incumbent conducts site visits, inspections, and monitors worker exposure (e.g., silica, noise, welding fumes, lead, indoor air quality, ergonomics, etc.). Moreover, the Industrial Hygienist coordinates sampling initiatives, supports program updates and departments with industrial hygiene components. **Main Responsibilities** **Ergonomics and Risk Management** · Advise on and support the implementation of an ergonomics program at CN · Support stakeholders on strategies that help drive effective ergonomics and risk reduction · Work with partnership, leadership, and workers to facilitate Ergonomics Program requirements · Develop a risk management system and integrate ergonomic design guidelines into the engineering process · Support various departments for ergonomic risks, investigations, claim closures, and legal support · Collaborate with other CN departments (e.g., Operations, Dangerous Goods, Medical) for employee outreach, program initiatives, and new project developments **Industrial Health and Hygiene Programs** · Develop, maintain and continuously improve on industrial hygiene programs and processes · Conduct assessments, identify trends, and recommend initiatives to reduce exposures and illnesses · Develop and update content for training initiatives (e.g., ergonomics, hearing conservation, respiratory protection, biological hazards) · Participate in exposure investigation processes and support the identification and implementation of follow-up action plans **Compliance, Support, and Collaboration** · Participate in collaborative Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) internal audits · Act as a technical resource and support to regional and local facilities, including local regulatory agencies (e.g., Labour Canada) · Respond to, direct and advise on actions to address employee exposure situations or concerns **Working Conditions** The role is performed in a combination of office and outdoor environment in various types of weather conditions with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday with occasional work on evenings and weekends. The role requires regular travel (50%) within Canada for field work.On-call emergency response travel may be required on a limited basis without prior warning. The role requires participation in on-call duties on a rotating basis with other department industrial hygienists. Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure, and stress. **Requirements** **Experience** Ergonomic and Health and Safety · Between 2 to 5 years of experience within the HSE field · Between 1 to 2 years of project or team leadership experience* o Experience in railroad* o Experience with claims management, compensation or gradual return to work* o Industrial hygiene experience* *Any experience for these above would be considered as an asset **Education/Certification/Designation** · Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Kinesiology, Ergonomics, Engineering or related degrees* · Valid Driver’s License · Master’s Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene or Environmental Sciences* · Registered Occupational Hygienist (ROH) or Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP)* · Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP)* · Certified Professional Ergonomist* *Any designation for these above would be considered as an asset **Competencies** · Demonstrates agility and drives change · Sets direction and inspires others · Communicates with impact · Delegates and empowers others to create accountability · Collaborates with others and shares information · Demonstrates active listening · Identifies needs and finds solutions to create value for all stakeholders · Identifies potential safety and security risks · Leads by example for the safety and security of all **Technical Skills/Knowledge** · Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) · Strong technical report writing skills · Knowledge of industrial hygiene data platform software (e.g., Cority, Enablon)* · Fluently bilingual, both written and verbal (English, French)* *Any knowledge for any of the above would be considered as an asset **About CN** CN is a world-class transportation leader and trade-enabler.
