Industrial Safety Manager
Under general supervision, the Industrial Safety Manager will be responsible for supporting implementation of the Hanford Tank Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant (WTP) Industrial Safety Program. Specific responsibilities include identifying workplace hazards, developing appropriate hazard controls and mitigation strategies and training for both office and field locations, and providing oversight of work activities to ensure controls are effectively implemented. Requires advanced skills in oral and written communications; knowledge of safety procedures, engineering systems, principles, and methodologies; knowledge of national and international safety laws/regulations and regulatory agencies’ processes and responsibilities, industry standards/practices for safety and health compliance, and best management practices for minimizing potential safety risks during project execution; knowledge of engineering and construction systems, methods, and work processes; knowledge of construction planning, estimating, procedures, and execution; experience in managing and/or providing technical oversight of safety and/or health subcontractors or consultants; experience in safety inspections and assessments during construction and/or operations; knowledge of hazardous materials and physical risk exposures and Personal Protective Equipment standards as well as People Based Safety processes and procedures. **This position shall be performed under the day-to-day direction, control, and supervision of WTCC** **MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES/TASKS** + Support the Waste Treatment Plant Nuclear Safety Quality Culture by emphasizing the values of safety and quality in the performance of work in order to protect self, others, and the environment + Identifying workplace hazards, developing appropriate hazard controls and mitigation strategies and training for both office and field locations, and providing oversight of work activities to ensure controls are effectively implemented + Ensuring quality control processes are incorporated into safety policies, process and procedure to monitor all aspects of regulations by being informed of all existing and proposed changes in occupational health and safety regulations + Supporting worker safety and health needs, including injury and event response and case management + Recognizes, evaluates and recommends and implements policies and procedures ensuring effective implementation of safety and health rules, regulations, policies and procedures to assure awareness and compliance with safety requirements + Participating in pre-task and safety meetings + Performing incident/event investigations and preparing associated reports; conducts investigations of injuries/illnesses, conditions that could/do have direct safety impacts and potential liability + Directs comprehensive audits and inspections of safety programs to identify, prevent, and control significant loss producing exposure to safety hazards + Reviews and provides recommendations for the correction of hazards situations for compliance with OSHA, state, and other Federal regulations + Provides leadership and direction for safety staff and leadership within the S&H function of the organization + Promotes communication programs to coordinate the incorporation of safety into ES&H programs and to enhance and encourage employee awareness of accident and fire prevention, industrial hygiene, and environmental compliance + Conducts performance reviews of employees under their direct supervision providing opportunities for professional enhancement and growth in their field as well as mentoring and coaching on areas of improvement and acknowledgement of successes. + This job description is not intended to include every duty, task or instruction for which an employee is responsible. Other tasks may be assigned, based on business needs and the department supervisor’s request **SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES** + Manages the industrial safety specialists and provides daily direction and supervision. + Oversees the administration of the industrial safety program through the implementation of the work and execution of the safety specialists. **Education:** Bachelor of Science degree in environmental science, safety management, engineering or a related field or demonstrated equivalent. **Experience:** This is management level position with 10 years of professional, related experience with proven supervisory/ administrative skills. Certification as a Certified Safety Professional is preferred. Experience at WTP or other Department of Energy facility is preferred. **PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS** (EFNM) Exposed Field Non-Manual Performs desk work, including writing, computer workstation processes, and telephone operation. Arranges for and/or performs presentations, oral reports, planning meetings, and other formal and informal contacts, requiring long periods of sitting. Oversees field activities through inspections, testing and equipment operations, which requires walking, standing, bending, and turning along with wearing of personal protective equipment. Occasional loading, transport, and unloading of tools and/or supplies specific to an activity **.** **This position is located at the Construction Site (22 miles north of Richland) and works a 4 x 10 schedule, M-Th, 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.** **Must be able to work in the United States without Sponsorship** **Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy (DOE) badge for access to the Hanford site** . **COMPENSATION & BENEFITS** HIRING SALARY RANGE: $146,128.82 - $238,179.18 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
