Summary:Location: Harlingen
IECMHC is a prevention-based approach that pairs a mental health consultant with adults who work with infants and young children in the different settings where they learn and grow, such as childcare, preschool, home visiting, early intervention and home. IECMH consultants use their clinical training and background to support professionals and caregivers and enhance/expand skills and knowledge to facilitate children’s healthy social and emotional development. Basic Responsibilities:1. Will provide a broad range of services, including early childhood mental health consultation in classrooms and through home visits; training and coaching staff; screening, assessment, and referral services; promotion and marketing of group services; and providing parent trainings.
2. Support caregivers and providers in identifying and addressing early signs of environmental, relational, and behavioral concerns in order to prevent escalation, promote healthy relationships, and reduce negative behaviors and symptoms in early childhood.
3. Will maintain client records and documentation of consultation services in compliance of all performance standards and state regulations.
4. Establish strong working relationships with partners in the community; set the tone and foundation for IECMHC to be grounded in strong, healthy relationships.
5. Develop and nurture strong, collaborative relationships with ECE program Directors and staff; as well as other infant and early childhood agencies and providers, particularly as IECMHC expands into other sectors (Home Visiting, Pediatrics, etc.).
6. Learn and understand the culture of the ECE system including the myriad challenges facing the ECE service sector such as high staff turnover, low pay, and increased demand to respond and manage child challenging behaviors in a learning environment.
7. Develop and facilitate mental health and child development training, education or psychoeducation groups for children, parents, and/or Early Childhood professionals as needed.
8. Provide reflective consultation to professional adults working with young children as needed both individually and in group format.
9. Provide support and crisis intervention with families and children involved with the program.
10. Provide parent education and developmental guidance.
11. Participate in marketing and community outreach activities as needed.
12. Develop strong collaborative partnerships for shared discussion of expectations, goal setting and co-development of the IECMHC service plan.
13. Provide comprehensive assessments and treatment planning with measurable objectives, as needed.
14. Strengthen understanding of infant mental health, IECMC, the collaborative and relational nature of IECMC services, and how adults can support social and emotional development.
15. Model relational practices such as collaboration, reflection, curiosity, and considering and holding multiple perspectives as a way to support adults, so that they in turn can support one another and children in their care.
16. Demonstrate flexibility and the ability to adapt and tailor IECMHC services to meet the unique needs of children, families, and programs representing varied and diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
17. Participate in reflective supervision in relation to IECMHC services and practice.
18. Collect data related to screening, referrals, and services provided and report data to grantor in a timely manner.
Qualifications:1. Must be a licensed mental health provider with an advanced degree in counseling (LPC), psychology, social work (LCSW), or psychiatry.
2. Two (2) years of experience working with children and families (preferred).
3. Experience providing training or professional development to adults of various learning styles.
4. Computer knowledge to include, word-processing, database management and spreadsheets.
5. Excellent grammar and spelling skills, essential.
6. Good time management skills, excellent follow-through abilities and detail oriented.
7. Ability to work well with others and in a team environment and work with multiple agencies.
8. Bilingual capabilities preferred.
9. Must be able to successfully clear a criminal background check and a pre-employment drug screen.
