Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the Clinic Manager, provides assistance in the clinical/preclinical area by
maintaining dental chairs, dental units and other items of dental equipment in a clean and sanitary
condition in accordance with the Faculty’s Infection Control Policy (ICP) and Guidelines. Other duties
include assisting in the clinic dispensary and preparing clinical supplies by: cleaning and oiling dental
handpieces; wrapping and bagging supplies; cleaning impression trays; washing instrumentation kits;
loading and unloading sterilizers; maintaining adequate stocks of consumable dental supplies and
replenish sundries and materials; and assisting in special assignments as requested. The incumbent may
also provide similar services to other clinics as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities:

Assisting in the proper protocol for cleaning and maintaining all instruments and equipment in the clinic. This includes preparing items for sterilization and returning them to the designated areas after sterilization.

Load and unload dental instrument kits and place them in the appropriate sterilizers (ultrasonic, steam, dry heat, pasteurizers etc.).

Cleaning and preparing for sterilization on a daily basis all alginate trays returned from the labs.

Cleaning and oiling dental handpieces manually or with a Quattro Care Unit.

Wrapping and bagging supplies (e.g. rolls and gauze, cotton pellets, matrix bands etc.).

Cleaning impression trays and sorting laundry items.

Soaking and washing instrumentation kits.

Preparing and monitoring disinfectant solutions.

Loading and unloading dental kits from sterilizers.

Maintaining adequate stocks of consumable supplies.

Reporting and documenting any malfunctioning or inoperative dental equipment to the team leader

Assisting the team leader with annual stock taking, cleaning and servicing of instruments, kits and equipment.

Maintaining log book for loaned items.

Assisting in any special assignments or unexpected emergencies.

Maintaining dental chairs, dental units (including cuspidors and operating lights) and other items of dental equipment in various clinical areas in a clean and sanitary condition in accordance with the Faculty’s Infection Control Policy & Guidelines.

Ensuring that all tubing from suction have proper solutions run through their lines.

Ensuring suction traps are cleaned daily to be free of debris to avoid clogging.

Cleaning and disinfecting all clinic counters.

Restocking all miscellaneous clinic supplies (e.g. paper towels, Dixie cups, soap, mouthwash, gloves, masks, etc.)

Monitoring all sharp containers, disposing of them and restocking of them as necessary.

Ensuring the cleanliness and sterilization of dental instruments and equipment and maintaining proper protocols on high and slow handpieces.

Maintaining efficient log books for detailing the use of all cleaning and disinfecting products.

Helping with annual stock taking, cleaning instruments, kits and equipment.

Prepares instruments for sterilization, washing, packaging, loading, unloading, placing in

appropriate sterilizers, removing at correct time and storing for further use.

Responsible for performing simple tests, daily and weekly, to determine status of various sterilizers.

Other qualifying skills:

Medical Device Reprocessing Technicians" and have a certificate in that field

High degree of manual dexterity.

Excellent organizational skills.

Ability to prioritize own work.

English and French spoken and written.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Ability to work under pressure and ability to work in a multi-tasked environment.

Ability to spend long hours standing, stretching, bending and light lifting.
