MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

To assist with the implementation and maintenance of a functional Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) programme at hospital level

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS

Identify, mitigate and manage risks related to Infection Prevention and Control

Investigate, analyse and interpret clinical data and act upon findings

Ensure adherence to statutory bodies

Identify training needs in the hospital and provide input in the development of training material

Influence and equip hospital teams to understand and comply with IPC policies and principles

Provide support with patient safety and quality improvement initiatives in the absence of the Patient Safety Manager

Continuous professional development

To manage key stakeholder relations

REQUIRED EDUCATION

ESSENTIAL EDUCATION:  Nursing qualification (degree or diploma)

DESIRED EDUCATION:  IPC course

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:  2-4 Years working in a hospital environment as a professional healthcare practitioner

DESIRED EXPERIENCE:  1 year IPC related work

REQUIRED JOB SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE Quality improvement methodologies Conducting a system analysis of healthcare,associated infections and institute preventative measures Interpretation and application of the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) definitions Auditing (e.g. compliance to hand hygiene and environmental cleaning audits) Computer literate (Microsoft Office) IPC surveillance and risk identification Report writing skills Identification; investigation and management of outbreaks Understanding and application of relevant IPC principles Relevant statutory requirements and accreditation standards Data analysis and interpretation
