INFECTION PREVENTIONIST- QUALITY SERVICES

BASIC FUNCTION:

The Infection Preventionist under the Direction of the Unit Director for Infection Prevention and Control is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and continuous evaluation of all aspects of infection prevention, including surveillance, prevention and control.   Will provide assistance/support to other aspects of the department as needed, including Patient Advocacy, Accreditation/Surveys, Performance Improvement/Assurance, Risk Management, and the Colleague Health program.

EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE:

Registered Nurse, graduate of an accredited nursing school with current Ohio license; Bachelor’s degree/ Masters preferred. Minimum of three to five years experience in a health care setting. Basic knowledge of infection control surveillance and epidemiology. Experience/training in statistical analysis methodologies. Certification in Infection Control (CIC) preferred or complete Infection Prevention and Control training course within the first year, and complete CIC within 3 years. Must be computer literate to complete the task(s) as required.  Such as Electronic Surveillance Software for Infection Control (Sentri 7, Hospital Electronic Medical Record (Cerner/Meditech), Halogen (performance appraisal system), Relias (education system), ability to retrieve emails, complete on-line enrollment for health insurance/benefits, and any other programs as assigned. Participates in Annual and periodic NHSN/CDC Training
