Required skills:
Minimum of eight year’s work experience.
2+ years’ experience with relational databases including ability to read\code SQL and understand relational structures.
The perfect candidate would have technical writing skills and in order to get them past a manager, they most likely will need writing samples from them. My intent is to use them ½ time for metadata coordination and that has very high visibility. They will need to have a ‘tough’ skin because the reality is that the manager can be very critical. They will need to be able to communicate clearly and they need to have an outgoing personality. This would involve talking to various end users within the HFS organization and occasionally standing up in front of a group and speaking. These are things that you can’t see on a resume but these are things that the current contractor excels at. The new person will have an advantage in that the current contractor is here and can point them to the right people.
Nice to haves: Analyst skills…
We have a bunch of new projects that may (or may not) be coming down the line. One of the things I am woefully missing here is a good business analyst. To me, technical writing and business analysis are related, in that business analysts frequently have to write documentation. With these potential new projects I’m going to need someone to help with coordination from an analyst standpoint. If they have data warehousing or business intelligence experience it would be a major plus.
Really nice to haves: Technical skills
I’ve been fortunate to work some places where business analysts had some SQL skills. Ideally this would be a must have for me but due to the circumstances I need someone who can write and communicate clearly more than I need the added tech skills. Experience with Business Objects and/or Teradata would be nice. Understanding the movement of data from source to target systems via ETL would be a major plus.
Ability to quickly and accurately understand complex business rules and situations.
Ability to organize and document complex business situations.
Ability to lead \ support the running of requirements meetings \ documentation creation.
Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
Desired Skills but not required:
Business Intelligence Reporting.
Healthcare experience especially with claims and enrollment data.
Medicaid or Medicare
Metadata tools (Informatica Metadata Manager).
Data warehousing.
State Government.
Experience with ERWIN.
