Yes County Albany Street Address Office of Performance Improvement and Management Services Office of Information Technology Services City Albany State NY Zip Code 12234 Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s (NYSED) Information Technology Services Office is seeking candidates for two (2) Information Technology Specialist 2 (Information Security) positions within the Information Security Office. Under the supervision of the Information Technology Specialist 3 (Information Security), SG-23, the incumbents of these positions will support the securing of applications and systems for NYSED and assist with incident response and breach management. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following: • Monitor NYSED’s network through alerts received from our Managed Security Service system, firewalls, applications, and software vulnerability scans documenting the process and findings; • Respond to questions from system users, troubleshoot reported issues from system users through testing, define approach for understanding and resolving end-user problems, facilitate meetings with internal staff, end-users and management identifying and analyzing end-user problems; • Manage level I and level II incident response activities including, but not limited to, alert investigation, incident data collection, and impact assessment and recovery; • Assist with the development and implementation and revision of security policies and standards, consistently addressing the most up-to-date security requirements; • Identify and articulate findings and trends to management, program offices, and office of counsel; • Applies IT security concepts to help shape, define or revise incident response processes; • Support the Department’s ITS office in implementing security standards; • Assist with data governance by reviewing security risk assessments, defining security tasks required for projects, and completing other tasks; • Maintain the online security/privacy training database and ensure it is up-to-date with current employees; and • Evaluate and support desktop security applications including, but not limited to, encryption, DLP, endpoint control, and AV. Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: NON-COMPETITIVE APPOINTMENT: Candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree with at least 15 credit hours in cyber security, information assurance, or information technology. SUBSTITUTION: bachelor's degree candidates without at least 15 course credits in cyber security, information assurance, or information technology require an additional year of general information technology experience to qualify. Appropriate information security or information assurance experience may substitute for the bachelor's degree on a year for-year basis; an associate degree requires an additional two years of general information technology experience. Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: These positions are pending non-competitive status. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Candidates should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. These positions allow for the opportunity to telecommute up to 50% each bi-weekly pay period and is granted at the discretion of the supervisor and the appointing office. These positions require occasional off-shift night and weekend work. Filling of these positions are contingent upon Division of the Budget approval.These positions lead to a maximum salary of $82,656 based on annual performance advances.
