Complete Description:
The Information Technology Specialist I is expected to work independently, and use independent judgment. Information Technology Specialist I is expected to provide management with technical assistance in all aspects of data processing operations. Information Technology Specialist I is expected to work in District’s operating environment which is a combination of mainframe and Server applications.
The ideal candidate must have solid technical experience in the utilization and implementation of tools to monitor the server and mainframe applications. Desired knowledge/skills below.
• Must be knowledgeable of computer applications capabilities and limitations of computer equipment.
• Must be proficient in Word and Excel and/or other comparable software.
• Basic knowledge on how to identify, investigate and troubleshoot error conditions to help remediate system failure conditions.
• Basic understanding of Configuration Management (CM) for software updates and migrations of code.
• Expected to update the status of the software migration using the Software Projects Tracking management tool.
• Monitor and fine-tune performance of the systems environment.
• Knowledgeable of Migration procedures process of application software code.
• Must be proficient in Microsoft SQL Management Studio & Oracle SQL Developer.
• Working knowledge of IBM z/OS System Display and Search Facility (SDSF) to display status and release production output.
• Knowledge on starting and stopping Windows applications and associated services.
• Able to work independently.
• Work and interact effectively as a team member.
• Knowledgeable of Job Control Language (JCL).
• Detects errors in job control statements and notifies affected parties following established procedures.
• Prepare and provide reports on failures and abnormalities of production systems startup.
• Responds to program error messages by finding and correcting problems.
• Assists with documenting communication network configuration.
• Assists with performing emergency power-down procedures and disaster recovery procedures.
• Assists with monitoring the operation of data network equipment, network computer consoles, or similar devices to detect inefficient performance or failures; initiates corrective action to improve overall performance.
• Answer user inquiries regarding computer software to resolve problems, fielding incoming help requests from end users via both telephone and work orders in a courteous manner.
• Document all pertinent end user identification information, including name, department, contact information, and nature of problem or issue.
• Access software updates, drivers, knowledge bases, and frequently asked questions resources on the Internet to aid in problem resolution.
• Identify and learn appropriate software and hardware used and supported by the organization.
• Perform related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position, and as assigned
