Responsibilities This position is being filled under the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness (USD(P&R)) Memorandum, "Direct Hire Authority for Certain Personnel of the Department of Defense," June 23, 2023 As a Information Technology Specialist (INFOSEC) at the GS-2210-12 some of your typical work assignments may include: Establishes and maintains JCSE's cybersecurity policies, procedures, and tools to ensure systems, networks, and data remain secure throughout their lifecycle. Provides expert guidance on system security practices and ensures compliance with DoD cybersecurity standards. Conducts risk assessments, security testing, and vulnerability analysis to identify and mitigate threats to information systems. Reviews and validates Risk Management Framework (RMF) certification and accreditation (C&A) packages. Ensures all systems comply with DoD policies and cybersecurity regulations while maintaining comprehensive documentation. Monitors network activities, controls access to prevent unauthorized use, and implements safeguards like firewalls and access controls. Responds to security incidents and ensures timely reporting and documentation. Conducts initial and recurring Cyber Awareness Training for personnel, maintaining training records and ensuring all users understand their cybersecurity responsibilities before accessing systems. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications You may qualify at the GS- 12, if you fulfill the following qualifications: A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service: Create and maintain cybersecurity policies, tools, and procedures to safeguard systems and data. Ensure compliance with DoD standards and provide expert security guidance. Oversee network security, control access, respond to incidents, and deliver Cyber Awareness Training to ensure all users understand and follow cybersecurity protocols. Knowledge of risk management processes and requirements per the Risk Management Framework (RMF). Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Education Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level. Additional Information This is a cybersecurity position. The employee must attain and maintain the appropriate DoD approved cybersecurity baseline Certificate(s) applicable for cybersecurity functions required for the DoD position held within six months of filling the position, IAW DoD 8140. This position is designated as a key position. Duties of this position are essential to the accomplishment of wartime/contingency operations. Incumbents of key positions must be removed from their military recall status if alternative for filling of the position during an emergency are not available.
