Summary About the position: This position will be assigned to the IT Facility, Fort Dix, NJ. Responsibilities Must have Windows Server and desktop support experience. Performs IT functions encompassing but not limited to: Application Software, Customer Support, Network Services, Operating Systems, Policy and Planning, and enhances FSS local area network (LAN) and wide area network (WAN) systems. Monitors, tests, analyses, maintain, and operate multiple base level operating systems network platform. Coordinates the planning, development, configuration, installation, and maintenance of network systems to include the LAN/WAN. Analyzes LAN/WAN utilization statistics through data collection and performance measure to ensure smooth, reliable, and robust operation of unclassified networks. Determines facility environment network system requirements and infrastructure to support systems. Coordinates LAN installation, implementation, maintenance, and troubleshooting; reviews, evaluates and fine-tunes components to achieve network connectivity. Installs, configures, and troubleshoots network, and application server hardware, network operating system software, and peripheral network equipment Changes the components of existing equipment for efficient operation or recommends major modifications to existing systems. Consults with managers and functional users to determines common requirements necessary to meet Information Technology (IT) business processes and needs. Performs analysis of current systems to determine which are capable of supporting functional requirements. Functions as the FSS Client Support Administrator or Functional System Administrator (CSA or FSA) for mission critical and unit-specific software applications and hardware that operates on the Joint Base MDL .MIL network. Analyzes processes, problem activates, and system designs of the FSS activities to comply with legal and regulatory requirements. Plans, coordinates, and installs applications software and hardware for operational and POS systems. Optimizes the functionality and performance of hardware and software systems and ensures availability, integrity, efficiency and reliability of services. Runs tests to verify operability and functionality; analyzes hardware and software malfunctions to resolve physical and logical processing problems; and recommends acquisition of programs or equipment which will resolve operational problems. Provides on-going optimization and problem solving support; continually surveys system operation to identify potential systems problems which could lead to loss of service. Initiates solutions and recommends acquisition of programs/ equipment. Provides reactive consultation, recommendation, and documentation to ·stems users. Provides customer technical assistance support and conducts studies to analyze FSS.NET LAN failures. Provides on-going technical support to customers to ensure proper functional use of equipment and programs to preclude undue interruptions to IT services. Assists in solving problems associated with delivery of hardware and software orders. Provides management with necessary information to address difficult and complex problems in automating work processes. Promotes use of automated systems by providing instructions to functional area users on IT processes. Participates with operating officials, system programmers, computer users, and others to analyze progress review of established systems to determine reliability, productivity, and user friendliness of the existing network system hardware and software. Independently researches literature for applicable systems. Assists with providing cost analyses for new and upgraded network infrastructure capabilities. Keeps up with new changes in technology to assist management in preparing for future enhancements. Provides input for future needs and prepares recommendations, justifications, and specifications for equipment and applications. Examines and evaluates alternative means of satisfying user requirements and makes recommendations to management regarding the most effective and efficient approaches. Determines PSS.NET network requirements for activities and assists users by recognizing and analyzing trends, providing guidance, and orientation services. Conducts analyses of network usage, user complaints, traffic interruptions, and hardware and software capabilities. Recommends methods and procedures and coordinates corrective action to optimize utilization of present equipment. Interfaces, cooperates and works with base communication agencies in planning and developing new or additional network infrastructures capabilities. Identifies potential performance or capability problems. Works with technical support personnel in resolving problems. Performs other duties and task as assigned. Successful completion of a 4-year college or university with coursework in computer science, information technology or closely related field highly desirable. Experience must be comparable to A+, Network and Security+ Microsoft certification levels. Knowledge of IT network systems design principles, methodologies, and approaches used in planning, development, testing, installing, operating, administering, and maintaining network services that support functional requirements. Expert knowledge of network architecture, topology, and protocols sufficient to plan, design, develop, infrastructure. Experience with methods, techniques, and processes for the optimal integration of LAN/WAN components, infrastructure, test and evaluation methods sufficient to provide technical guidance and installation of base-wide programs. Knowledge of customer support concepts and methods, installed applications, operating systems, network systems, protocol, and equipment sufficient to assist management in determining requirements. Proficiency in customer support techniques and principles sufficient to review, validate, and standardize problem resolution. Expertise in data content and output options for a variety of administrative, scientific and/or technical program applications that arc processed on several multi-program operating systems. Skill and aptitude in applying IT network development concepts and techniques to provide computer applications that offer optimal functional support to users. Ability to analyze functional IT network system requirements, translate finding into functional requirements, develop supportable recommendations, and apply appropriate methodologies and tools. Experience in local systems administrator duties as a Client Support Administrator (CSA) and Functional System Administrator (FSA) on systems that reside on the .MIL network. Per DoD 8570.01 M, the incumbent of this position as a condition of employment must achieve the appropriate Information Assurance certification within specified timeline of assignment of these duties. Must be able to obtain a Secret Security Clearance. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Must be able to carry equipment weighing at least 45 pounds. May be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays, and will be on call on a rotational basis.
