Job Description

Basic Function and Scope of Responsibility: 

The Infrastructure Engineer is primarily responsible for engineering, configuration, installation, maintenance, and upgrade of the Company’s infrastructure, including physical and virtual servers, storage, backups, and disaster recovery planning. This role requires deep technical expertise, strategic thinking, and the ability to lead complex projects.

Essential Job Duties:

Level I - Minimum

Assist in research, evaluation, and recommendation of hardware and software such as servers, storage (SAN/NAS), and backup software. Assist in supporting corporate servers, user desktops, etc.Assist in designing, configuring, or upgrading the virtual server environment.Assist with basic troubleshooting of backup and archiving.Assist in identifying, diagnosing, and resolving connection, reliability, or performance issues.Keep the workroom neat, organized, and secure.Work under close to moderate supervision with limited latitude for independent judgment.Consult with senior peers on non-complex projects to learn through experience.Apply basic application management and administration skills with a moderate level of proficiency.Represent the department and the organization favorably and in accordance with established Company standards and associate attributes.Work within defined ITIL processes such as change and incident management.Other duties as assigned by management.

Level II – Fully meets the responsibilities of Level I plus the following:

Manage Windows patching, security updates and software rollouts for all sites.Research, evaluate, and recommend hardware and software such as servers, storage (SAN/NAS), as well as backup software.Support of corporate servers in on-premise, hybrid, and cloud environments.Design, configure, or upgrade server and storage environments.Assists with advanced troubleshooting, backup, and archiving.Identify, diagnose, and resolve connection, reliability, or performance issues.Work within and assist with the management of defined IT processes and procedures, including Systems Development Life Cycle methodology.Work with little to no supervision with latitude for independent judgment.Consult with senior peers on medium to complex projects.Assist in overseeing the primary activities of individual contributors (see above) to ensure completion of tasks and attainment of departmental goals.

Senior – Fully meets the responsibilities of Level II plus the following:

Work with little to no supervision with extreme latitude for independent judgment.Proficient in all levels and phases of Infrastructure support.Partner with key vendors to maintain an understanding of new technology and leading practices.Serve as an escalation point for issues beyond project team authority; resolve conflicts involving scheduling, resources, or technical issues.May be responsible for helping develop the department's budget for personnel, capital, and/or operation expenses.

Lead – Fully meets the responsibilities of Senior plus the following:

Lead and mentor a team of engineers while fostering a collaborative and innovative team culture.Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including other IT and business teams across the organization.Manage team members, project resources, timelines, and deliverables to ensure timely completion.

Qualifications

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Level I - Minimum

Bachelor's degree in computer science, business, or equivalent experienceMinimum of 1-3 years of experience with server support a must.Active Directory, Domain Management, and Group Policy Experience.Windows Deployment Services Experience.Critical thinking and problem-solving abilityAbility to multi-taskKnowledge of reference lab operations and processes a plusKnowledge and management of System Development Lifecycle Methodologies a plusExperience in maintaining technical documentation to ensure efficient planning and executionGoal-oriented, with excellent time management and organizational skillsExcellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively and work efficiently with people at all levels in an organizationExcellent verbal & written communication skillsKeenly attentive to detailAbility to keep sensitive information confidentialHigh level of proficiency with PC-based software programs including MS Office suite and project management tools, MS Project preferred

Level II – Fully meets the qualifications of Level I plus the following:

Minimum of 3-7 years server support a must, preferably Windows 2019, 2022 & 2025 serverMinimum of 3-7 years of experience managing VMware and Hyper-V virtual server environmentsMinimum of 3-7 years in managing, designing, configuring, and upgrading backup solutionsMinimum of 3-7 years managing, designing, configuring, and upgrading storage solutionsExperience supporting Microsoft Exchange environmentsExperience supporting Linux server environments.Experience managing automated enterprise patching and software deployments.Experience using and applying System Development Lifecycle MethodologiesPrevious experience in a reference lab or similar regulated/controlled environmentBasic scripting experience in a common scripting language such as PowerShell or Python.Experience using an automation platform such as Ansible, Chef, or Puppet.

Senior – Fully meets the qualifications of Level II plus the following:

7+ years server support7+ years of experience designing, configuring, and upgrading VMware virtual server environments.7+ years of experience in managing, designing, configuring, and upgrading backup solutions7+ years of experience in managing, designing, configuring, and upgrading storage solutionsDemonstrated positive experience with System Development Lifecycle MethodologiesTechnical certification such as Microsoft or Linux professional-level certification

Lead – Fully meets the qualifications of Senior plus the following:

Minimum 1-3 years leading a team of engineers and technicians.

Physical Requirements:
