The role holder may manage a small/medium design team. They are a competent design authority on larger or more complex solutions, demonstrating an understanding of the customers’ business and commercial issues. They identify, design and deliver larger or more complex architectures, strategies and specific solutions. 

The project uses many agile processes but can be flexible depending on the delivery so an understanding of multiple methodologies will be required.

Your role will involve:

As a VMware Specialist, you will play a crucial role in the creation of an Platform as a Service (PaaS) using VMware technologies including vRealize Orchestrator (VRO), VMware Cloud Director (VCD), and NSX-T. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to architect, deploy, and optimize virtualized environments tailored to meet the specific needs of our clients.

Design and implement VMware-based PaaS solutions according to client requirements and industry best practices. Configure and optimize VMware vRealize Orchestrator (VRO) workflows for automating provisioning, deployment, and management tasks. Good understanding to have the end to end view of the infrastructure required and a close working relationship with Network Architect, Storage Architect and the SIEM Architect. Working with storage solutions that cover NFS and iSCSI Working understanding of using CIS beach marking to ensure a good security is maintained on all technologies.  Using CI/DC pipeline automation for building and change through all parts of the infrastructure build out. Configure and optimize Storage DRS, VMhost DRS and Affinity Rules Provide technical expertise and support during the testing, troubleshooting, and resolution of issues related to VMware infrastructure. Develop and maintain documentation, including architectural diagrams, standard operating procedures, and technical guides. Stay updated on emerging VMware technologies, trends, and best practices to drive continuous improvement and innovation Automation of ESXi hosts build out along with life cycle management for patching of ESXi Attend any regular JIRA “ceremonies” or other project meetings to communicate and input from a Test perspective

Your Experience

Experience in designing, implementing, and optimizing VMware-based PaaS solutions, specifically with technologies like vRealize Orchestrator (VRO), VMware Cloud Director (VCD), and NSX-T. Hands-on experience in configuring and optimizing VMware vRealize Orchestrator (VRO) workflows for automating provisioning, deployment, and management tasks, along with ESXi host lifecycle management. Strong understanding of infrastructure architecture, including close collaboration with Network, Storage, and SIEM Architects, along with experience in working with NFS and iSCSI storage solutions. Experience in using CI/CD pipelines to automate infrastructure buildouts and facilitate efficient changes throughout the deployment lifecycle. Familiarity with CIS benchmarking to maintain security best practices across technologies, ensuring systems are compliant and protected against vulnerabilities.
