Edgewater Federal Solutions is seeking a Infrastructure Field Telecom Tech to support the IT Program at a major national laboratory. The organization provides IT Infrastructure for enterprise services.  They provide modern telecommunications systems for data, telephone, wireless LAN, RF Microwave, and encryption capabilities with emphasis on securing and protecting the client’s information, standardization, and reducing heterogeneity.

 

In this position, the candidate will provide low voltage telecommunications infrastructure maintenance that meet industry standards, local & national codes and National Laboratories telecommunications specification requirements. Maintenance will include all aspects of the information communications technology (ICT) infrastructure to include Outside Plant, Inside Plant, Horizontal Cabling and Telecommunications Spaces. Well versed in NEC Codes regarding Telecommunications, BICSI Industry Best Practices, EIA/TIA Standards and IEEE Standards.

 

Demonstrated experience in fiber and copper cabling network infrastructures, an in- depth knowledge of telecommunications industry standards (American National Standards Institute (ANSI)/Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA)/Electronic Industries Alliance (EIA), and BICSI recommended practices. Experience installing outside plant cable infrastructure systems and extensive experience installing structured cabling systems in local area networks in campus type environments is preferred. Expertise with understanding specifications and drawings associated with construction projects.

Responsibilities Coordinating small projects to include (ordering material, scheduling and leading a small crew on installs)Troubleshooting of single mode and multimode fiber using an OTDR and/or Power MeterTroubleshooting GPON using a PON meter or OTDRTroubleshooting of copper infrastructure using Fluke testers, multimeter and handsetInstallation of all aspects of GPONInstallation of WAP’s and other WIFI network devicesInstallation, termination and testing of ISP SM/MM fiber, UTP/STP copper cablingSplicing and termination of multi-pair copperSplicing of fiber (simplex, ribbon, loose tube)Installation, prep, termination and testing of OSP fiber cablingTesters to certify circuits up to 100gInstallation and maintenance of battery stringers and UPS systemsGrounding and bondingMaintaining certification of customer’s testing equipmentMaintenance of customer-owned SplicersRack and stack of network switchesUsing Panorama to configure devicesUsing Visio to update as-built drawings Qualifications Associate’s degree with 5 years’ experience, in lieu of degree 8 years job related experience.U.S. Citizenship is required per contract to obtain and maintain a DOE Q Clearance.A valid driver’s license is required.Skills in the use of Microsoft Office applications.Experience in terminating and testing of fiber optics.Fusion splicing. Knowledge of cable located procedures. Must be experienced with infrastructure cabling, installation, testing and best practices for voice, data and VoIP.Strong computer skills with emphasis on Microsoft Office applications are required.Ability to successfully handle multiple priorities simultaneously.Ability to work flexible hours and support on-call duties and shift work.Ability to collaborate work effort between multiple groups. Must be able to climb ladders and work in a variety of locations associated with reviewing Telecommunications Spaces.

Desired:

Knowledge of design drawing tool such as AutoCAD and Visio.Working knowledge of a GIS-based design support software (Esri),A New Mexico Journeyman License ES-7J/ES-3J (Telephone Communications System and Telephone interconnect systems or higher) is desirable.BICSI certification
