Newmont Peñasquito es una operación, donde el empleado vive en campamento y luego es retornado a su localidad para el descanso, ubicada a unos 780 km al noroeste de la Ciudad de México. Peñasquito es una mina a cielo abierto que produce oro, plata, plomo y zinc. La mina a cielo abierto de Peñasquito es la quinta mina de plata más grande del mundo y la segunda más grande de México.

Purpose
The Engineer Drill & Blast is responsible for designing and optimizing drilling patterns, providing technical guidance for supervisors, and supporting mine planning efforts while ensuring safe, environmentally responsible blasting operations that meet production objectives under initial supervisory guidance.
Activities
Design optimal drill and blast patterns, ensuring safe results and effective fragmentation while incorporating \"mine to mill\" concepts.
Create and maintain Master Drilling and Blasting Plans for each bench and mine phase, aligning with medium-term objectives.
Develop weekly drill and blast schedules that coordinate with mine operations requirements, presenting plans to stakeholders.
Generate detailed daily drill analyses and tie-in designs through collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
Conduct regular pattern inspections to monitor progress against schedule targets and proactively identify potential issues.
Ensure drill and blast operations align with mine designs, geotechnical parameters and operational schedules.
Design and effectively communicate blast designs and tie-in plans for field implementation.
Lead continuous improvement initiatives through identification, analysis and optimization of drill and blast processes.
Support the mine planning team with implementation of drill and blast initiatives and improvements.
Coordinate and lead weekly blast review and optimization meetings to assess performance and identify opportunities
The Engineer Drill & Blast leads by example through promoting safety culture, ensuring productive operations through sound

Knowledge
Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering with specialization in drilling and blasting operations.
In-depth understanding of drill and blast design principles, execution methods, performance analysis, and optimization techniques.
Strong foundation in open pit mining methods, equipment capabilities, and operational requirements.
Comprehensive knowledge of mine planning fundamentals, mining engineering principles, and geological concepts.
Strong analytical capabilities for diagnosing operational issues and optimizing blast performance.
Understanding of production metrics, KPIs, and performance reporting.
Ability to interpret technical data and translate findings into actionable recommendations.
Technical Skills
Minimum 2 years experience in metals mining sector with demonstrated expertise in drill and blast operations, design, and short-term planning.
Advanced proficiency in blast design using specialized software including HxGN MinePlan 3D Blast Module and ShotPlus for timing and sequence optimization.
Strong capability in technical pattern design, timing sequence development, and critical analysis of blast outcomes.
Proven experience in mining software applications including AutoCAD for technical drawings, ProVision for drill navigation and Surface Manager for operational monitoring.
Advanced data analysis and reporting skills using Microsoft Excel and other MS Office applications.
Demonstrated ability in operational leadership, showing sound technical judgment and decision-making capabilities.
Experience in gold/polymetallic mining operations with strong understanding of specific operational requirements and challenges.

Working Conditions
The position is located in Minera Peñasquito in Zacatecas, Mexico; and the applicant must be willing and able to live in a mine camp for extended periods of time depending on work schedule.
Position may be required to travel to and assist other domestic and international sites.
Must be willing and able to comply with health and safety standards, company policies and procedures, and Newmont environment policy.
Must be willing and able to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including walking on rough, uneven, and wet terrain.
Must be willing and able to wear personal protective equipment, including helmet, steel-toed shoes, safety goggles, respirators, self-contained breathing apparatus, earplugs, gloves, or any other equipment to perform the task safely.
