Innovation and Commercialization Associate / Manager

At the U.S. Department of Energy’s Argonne National Laboratory, our scientists and engineers conduct world-class research in clean energy, the environment, technology, national security and more to find innovative solutions for a better tomorrow. The Science and Technology Partnerships and Outreach (S&TPO) organization is one of six directorates at Argonne, whose mission is to catalyze partnerships, capture new opportunities, and connect our research to the innovation ecosystem to ensure U.S competitiveness, economic prosperity, and national security.  Innovation and Commercialization Team within S&TPO is a highly visible group that brings significant impact and value to Argonne and DOE from commercial partnerships that advance industrial adoption of Argonne technologies, innovations, and intellectual property.

Innovation and Commercialization Associate / Manager (or ICA/ICM) is a highly visible and collaborative position that brings significant impact and value to Argonne and DOE.  This position will focus on computing and software technologies, including advanced computing, AI/ML, cybersecurity, modeling and simulation tools for energy-related applications (e.g., energy and transportation systems), and related embedded software systems, but may also support other areas and lab strategic initiatives, as needed.

Position Requirements

As an Innovation and Commercialization Associate / Manager, you will:

Develop, commercialize, and manage Argonne’s IP and technologies cradle to graveNegotiate IP license and IP and related terms in collaborative research agreementsCultivate new and grow strategic industry research partnershipsAlign technical scope, IP, and other key terms with technical, business, and legal stakeholdersPartner with Argonne’s Contract Administration and Legal teams on necessary approvalsManage post-signature relationships, identify and pursue non-compliancesPartake in innovation and IP training for Argonne’s research community.

Education and experience we are looking for:

Tech transfer or licensing in industry or academia, preferably in computing or softwareFamiliarity with IP generation, assessment, identifying and pursuing commercial pathwaysDevelopment and management of research and technology partnershipsManagement of cross-functional relationships with R&D staff, business and legal partnersAbility to meet deadlines, manage conflicting priorities, and communicate effectivelyAdvanced degree in computer science, engineering, or related scientific fields is preferredOccasional domestic travel may be requiredAbility to model Argonne’s Core Values of Impact, Safety, Respect, Integrity, and Teamwork.

The selected candidate will be placed in the appropriate level (PT2 or PT3) depending upon the depth and breadth of relevant knowledge, skills, and experience brought to the position.
