Innovation Postdoc in Residence - Postdoctoral Associate
The Program New York University's Innovation Postdoc in Residence Program is designed to cultivate a new generation of postdoctoral associates who bridge the gap between academic research and industry innovation. This two-year program, one year based at NYU New York and the second at NYU Tulsa (https://www.nyu.edu/tulsa.html) , equips participants with business and entrepreneurial skills and the interdisciplinary experience necessary to translate cutting-edge research into real-world applications. Postdoc Associates will engage in an innovation challenge and immersive experiences that foster interdisciplinary collaboration, support cutting-edge innovations, and connect their work to the broader community. This unique program is open to all current PhD students at Tandon School of Engineering who will defend their dissertation by September 1, 2025. All interested students, including international students, who are passionate about utilizing their research to address industry challenges and contributing to the diverse, inclusive academic and entrepreneurial culture that NYU fosters are encouraged to apply. Program Goals + Equip Postdoctoral Associates with the experience necessary to bridge research and industry needs through tangible entrepreneurial skills + Provide industry experience through a combination of academic and employer engagement opportunities + Foster collaborations across disciplines to translate research into innovative and commercially impactful solutions + Support the transition from research activities to industry applications + Seek to support pathways to long-term employer-sponsored work and residency opportunities Program Structure + Two-year Immersion: Year 1 at NYU New York focuses on entrepreneurship training, professional development, and an innovation challenge. Year 2 transitions Postdoctoral Associates to NYU Tulsa (https://www.nyu.edu/tulsa.html) , where they will be placed with an industry host and expected to contribute to business operations by applying research to industry challenges. + Mentorship: Postdoctoral Associates will meet with mentors to guide their professional growth, foster interdisciplinary partnerships, and create pathways to industry knowledge and success. + Industry Integration: Associates will participate in hands-on projects that challenge them to apply their research to practice, translating their scholarly activities into marketable innovations that address societal and business needs. + George Kaiser Family Foundation (https://www.gkff.org/) (GKFF) is a partner in this program and includes the InTulsa Visa Network (https://talent.intulsa.com/intulsa-visa-network) for relocation and community integration support. Awards NYU will award up to three in-residence opportunities in 2025. Appointments are for two years, beginning in September 2025 and ending in August 2027. Postdoctoral Associates in this program will participate in in-person and on-site activities. They will follow a structured innovation challenge framework within the school and department and with the industry host. They participate in schoolwide and departmental activities and have mentorship opportunities to prepare them for an industry career. Teaching at another institution and outside employment during the fellowship is prohibited. Compensation and Allowances Postdocs will be appointed as a “Postdoctoral Associate” and will receive a $65,000 nine-month salary, a research allowance ($2,000), and reimbursement for one-time relocation fees (up to $3,000) each year if necessary. Such compensation will be subject to appropriate taxation. The University also provides a benefits package, including medical and dental coverage. Eligibility New York University's Innovation Postdoc in Residence Program welcomes all applicants, including international scholars from all disciplines at the NYU Tandon School of Engineering. Individuals who meet the following criteria are eligible to apply: 1. Individuals enrolled at NYU Tandon School of Engineering from NY, AD, or SH who have defended their dissertation from September 2024 or will successfully defend their dissertation by September 1, 2025 2. Candidates who desire to work in industry positions related to their area od expertise and are motived to relocate to Tulsa, Oklahoma in year two of the program If offered the position, any foreign national recipients without independent (not employer-based) U.S. work authorization may be sponsored and must be eligible for a J-1 visa. Participation in the program would be contingent upon visa approval, issuance, and admittance to the U.S., (as applicable) to engage in the program. Priority is given to candidates who do not currently hold postdoctoral fellowships or traineeships. As part of its selection process, our selection committee looks for evidence of scholarly achievement (honors, awards, publications), commitment to bridging academic research with industry innovation, interest in relocating to Tulsa, Oklahoma, and promise of continuing achievement as an industry practitioner. Required application materials include (1) a resume or curriculum vitae; (2) a statement on the candidate's vision for translating research to industry innovation; (3) a personal statement detailing reasons for applying for the unique postdoc program, and stated interest in relocating to Tulsa, OK; (4) two letters of recommendation; (5) a dissertation abstract; and (6) candidate information form. Incomplete submissions will not be accepted. Applicants are strongly encouraged to comment on NYU departments, alliances, and initiatives where their innovation challenge may be rooted and identify potential mentors with relevant industry experience.
