Innovation Scientist II

Sensient is growing!! Come join Sensient as an Innovation Scientist II within our Pharmaceutical Business unit.  You will be responsible for development of Sensient excipients for dietary supplements and pharmaceutical products.  This exciting role is an individual contributor who will manage New Product Development (NPD) projects on technical ingredients within color, flavor, coating and extract platforms within the food supplement, functional food and pharmaceutical applications (such as gummies, syrups, chewables, beverages, tablets, soft gels, lozenges etc.).  This position requires formulation of products, assisting pilot runs, coordinate and collaborate with internal resources and other business units to ensure NPD meets our customers commercial needs.

What You’ll Do:

Collaborate with other technical service team members and commercial teams to understand portfolio gaps and work on NPD to bridge these gaps.  Be responsible for managing the innovation pipeline and NPD projects for Pharma product platforms. Key outputs are application-based solutions with unique value propositions including commercially viable application Cost in Use.  Manage resources and the Stage Gate process for NPD project pipeline. The pipeline typically has 15 to 20 active projects, with at least two launches per quarter. Deliver commercially successful project solutions on color, coatings and flavors in order to maintain NPD Sales targets. Ensure all technical deliverables are achieved for the Launch checklist. Maintain accurate accountabilities in notebooks of new product development, design of studies and results.  Develop Subject Matter Expertise for key customer application formats (e.g., gummies, beverages, chewable tablets, etc.) in order to validate NPD performance.

What You’ll Bring:

University degree (B.S. or higher) in, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Pharmacy, Food Science, biological sciences or related scientific discipline required. Adaptability, learning agility, collaborative skills, time management, planning and organizational skills are a must.  Strong intrinsically motivated mindset, curiosity, creative thinking and entrepreneurial mindset are a must. Excellent communication skills, experience in working both autonomously as well as in a team are a must.  Prior knowledge of fluid bed equipment, perforated pan coating equipment, pan coaters, granulators and tablet presses are an added advantage.  Travel domestically and internationally, if needed, up to 30%.
