Available Shift: 3rd Shift - 9:30 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

Compensation: $22+ per hour with $2.00 per hour shift differential

A Brief Summary of This Position

The primary responsibility of the Inside Shipper is to accurately pick, count, and pack parts for shipment to our customers.  The Inside Shipper 1 is the first step in a progressive line of shipping positions which enables employees to move into higher level positions as they gain experience and acquire additional skills. Responsibilities include operating a variety of material handling and packaging equipment in a safe and efficient manner.  The Inside Shipper 1 will also be expected to maintain appropriate housekeeping and safety standards.

Essential Functions

Accurately pick, count, and pack parts for shipmentParticipate in departmental/cell functions under the direction of a shift supervisor or department leadOperate a variety of material handling and packaging equipment which may include: forklifts, order pickers, banding and crimping tools, capping machines, lift tables, small hand tools, vacu-lifts, weigh scales, staple/nail guns, barcode scanners, storage carousels, and wrapping machinesMaintain appropriate housekeeping standards in assigned work areaWear all required PPE and comply with all safety policies and standards

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

The ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, read, write, and count accuratelyA working knowledge of using e-mailThe ability to work with wood and small hand tools such as tape measures, crimping tools, scales, banders, and air-driven staple/nail gunsThe ability to stand, bend, push, pull, climb, lift and walkThe ability to safely lift up to 50 pounds frequently throughout the shiftThe ability to work over 10 hours a week in overtime when required for business needsThe ability to operate overhead cranes, forklifts, straddle trucks, shag trucks, or weigh counting scalesAn understanding of documents pertaining to packing and shipping of irrigation productsAn acceptable work history and attendance recordMaterial handling and inventory experienceA satisfactory safety record and constant awareness of others safety as well as their own

Job Training Skill Development

Employees with the above mentioned educational background and skills have to be able to successfully perform 5 of the following 22 essential functions of this job. The 5 tasks can be learned in approximately 2 years.  Previous related work experience could shorten the training time. Once the employee is successfully performing 7 of the following essential functions, the employee is eligible to transition into an Inside Shipper 2 role.

Decision Making

Employee makes routine decisions. The employee will need to follow both verbal and written instructions in English. Most of this job is covered by standard practices. Use of good common sense and quality control procedures are essential aspects of completing this job in a successful manner. The employee should be able to recognize major errors in shipping and parts orders paperwork, recognize weight discrepancies, misidentified parts etc. and bring them to the attention of appropriate personnel.

Physical Effort

Physical effort consists of continuous standing, bending, walking, pushing, pulling and lifting. The pushing, pulling and lifting will range from 0-50 lbs. depending on job assignment. Although some items weigh more, the employee should never have to lift more than 50 lbs. Must be able to withstand this effort for the duration of designated shift. Must work at a pace to enable the cell/department to attain set and agreed upon goals.

Working Conditions

85% of the work is done inside - the remainder is outside. The shipping building is a heated insulated structure. Outside service part order picking workers would be exposed to the full spectrum of the weather from summer to winter. Inside the building in the winter, there are some cool spots but normally temperature is comfortable. In the summer, it can get very warm and muggy inside the building with the heat index getting above 100 degrees Fahrenheit for short periods of time. Most loading operations are exposed to some type of disagreeable working conditions (wind, cold, heat, dust, dirt, fumes, noise, vibration, water, or oil). Working conditions may vary with specific work assignments.
