We are looking for an Installation Design Civil/Structural Engineer to join our team in one of today’s most exciting technologies. This role will report to the
Senior Manager, Sr. Principal Civil Engineer and will be based in San Jose, CA. This is a fully on-site, in office role.
As the Installation Design Civil/Structural Engineer at Bloom Energy, you will lead Civil/Structural Engineering designs for Bloom Energy fuel cell installation projects.
You will be part of a highly creative and efficient design team tasked with solving problems and challenging the status quo. You will have a direct impact on the design of sites, provide technical design guidance and vendor oversight, solve large-scale implementation issues, and build a strong understanding of Bloom Energy program requirements. The Installation Design Civil Civil/Structural Engineer must bring a strong understanding of a broad set of engineering and construction solutions and have the ability to manage the internal design and external customer process. This position will interface with a larger site installation design team: multi-discipline engineers, utility specialists, permitting specialists, project managers, and construction supervisors.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare land development plans, zoning plans, concept plans, design project schedule, budgets, and construction documents.Design and analyze structural systems for the installation of our energy servers at existing buildings including healthcare facilities, data centers, and educational institutions.Design and detail foundations and support systems for energy infrastructure, including: server equipment pads and foundations, building-mounted conduit support systems, lightning protection pole foundations, equipment anchorage and isolation systems, seismic and vibration considerations for sensitive equipment, sound, screening, and retaining wall design, and related structural calculations and construction documentation.Prepare detailed calculations and reports to justify design decisions and ensure structural compliance.Work closely with other Mechanical and Electrical engineers within the team to optimize designs, develop and maintain design standards and template specifications, and perform engineering design tasks and calculations.Evaluate existing site conditions based on record drawings, surveys, field notes and photos, and other related information provided by others to incorporate Bloom Energy installation improvements for commercial land development projects.Think outside the box to find innovative solutions to reduce product and installation costs without negative impacts on quality and reliability.Collaborate with engineers and other designers to ensure cohesive design and compliance with Building and Construction code requirements and to internal specifications required for Bloom Energy fuel cell systemsManage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining quality and meeting deadlines.Provide Construction Administration support by responding to construction submittals and RFIs.Manage external partners and consultants through the design and construction process.Travel for site assessments, internal design meetings, and interfacing with authorities having jurisdiction. Anticipated travel is 10% or less.Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering required; Master's degree preferredProfessional Engineer (PE) License required.Proficiency in AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office Suite, Hilti Profis, STAAD Pro, and other structural design software (e.g., RAM, ETABS).6+ years of site-civil/structural engineering experience, including site development, grading, paving, storm water, and utility design.Experience in structural design with various materials including masonry, steel, and concrete.Construction and/or facility maintenance experience is a plus.Must have experience in development of storm water management, erosion/sediment control, grading, and drainage plans from concept design through permitting & approvals and construction completion.Knowledge of codes related to construction projects (i.e. IBC, NFPA, NEC, ASCE, AWWA).Professional and collaborative – comfortable working closely with a team of multi-discipline engineers and cross-functional teams.Self-starter, proactive and persistent with well-developed analytical skills and the ability to work independently and under minimal supervision. Salary Ranges:$131,500.00 - $189,300.00
