What is the opportunity?

Join our growing Global Asset Management (GAM) team at RBC! We are seeking an Institutional Portfolio Manager (IPM) who will be focused on Developed Market Equities.

Reporting up through the RBC GAM US Distribution channel but working in very close proximity to the investment teams, this is an external, client-facing, investment specialist role.

The successful candidate will lead the efforts and approach to positioning our Developed Market Equities capabilities with institutional investors and support our Distribution teams for successful engagement with clients, consultants, and prospects. They will also support the investment team to leverage key messaging into the various sales and client solutions teams.

Collaborating with and supporting colleagues in similar roles on other teams and in other regions is an essential ingredient in executing on the responsibilities of this position.

What will you do?

Act as a conduit of knowledge and information flow between the investment desks and distribution/client-facing teams; serve as the primary point of contact who leads on responding to client and prospect queries for market and portfolio level data for our equity investment strategies.Attend client, consultant and prospect meetings as needed with the goal to reduce or eliminate need for direct support from the investment management teamLead on the efforts on responding to RFPs, including developing high-quality responses to RFP questions, guidance on solution design and pricing.Write regular high quality equity market commentaries as well as ad hoc thought leadership pieces in conjunction with the Investment and Marketing teamsIn conjunction with the Investment and Product teams as appropriate, conduct training on the relevant strategies including team structure, investment philosophy and process, key differentiating features of our team and strategy, etc.Participate in investment strategy meetings with portfolio managers, providing relevant feedback from consultants, clients and prospects on current products as well as investment needs and provide updates on opportunity pipeline, insight into key competitors’ products and initiatives as inputs into further enhancing the team’s market position.  Identify trends, where and why we are succeeding and/or experiencing headwinds.Evaluate the range of available investment capabilities for relevance with Institutional investors and strategize the positioning of our team and capabilities with clients, consultants and prospects.Work with the Marketing team to inform activities to increase market recognition for the capability and lead portfolio managers, including conferences, events, webinars etc. Together with the Product team, ensure appropriate fund vehicles are in place, and maintain timely information on competing organizations and strategies, as well as investor trends that impact on our activities and potential future product requirements.Work together with the investment teams and regional management teams to develop pricing guidelines, flexibility for mandate customization, and separate account AUM and revenue minimumsLead the preparation for portfolio manager road shows as well as ongoing monitoring of meeting activity and pipeline reporting.Work on projects as needed internally specifically to increase the effectiveness, efficiencies and consistency of the service we provide to clients.

The Institutional Portfolio Manager must display a highly professional manner and work effectively as part of a global team with key stakeholders spread across multiple offices and time zones. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, organizational qualities, and attention to detail.

Specific qualifications for the position also include:

Bachelor’s degree required with 10+ years of relevant experience in the asset management industryDeep understanding of the investment management industry and in particular the equity asset classProficient computer skills with specific experience utilizing Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and PowerPoint) and keen interest to learn how to use proprietary in-house systems.Series 7 and 63 or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.CFA / CAIA designations strongly preferred.Strong investment writing skills; ability to summarize and simplify more complex concepts (e.g. performance attribution) in a digestible client-friendly manner.Strong time management and organizational skills with the ability to well under pressure and manage and multiple deadlines from different stakeholders.Effective problem-solver with strong analytical and resolution skillsCritical thinking skills to help identify and improve process inefficiencies.A collaborative team player with a positive “can-do” attitude who is both proactive and forward-thinking.Willingness to travel to other RBC GAM offices and / or client premises as required.
