As an Instructional Assistant (emotional support) you will work with middle school and high school students with emotional support (ES) needs within the Reading School District. Reporting to the Emotional Support Special Education Teacher, among other duties, this position will:
Support and maintain classroom policies and procedures, while assisting students by modeling appropriate behavior, providing emotional support, and adopting a patient and friendly attitude.Assist in the implementation of students’ individualized education program (IEP) and positive behavior support plan (PBSP) as directed by the teacher.Assist with student personal needs, when required, including medical needs in conjunction with the school-based health or nursing staff.Participates in meetings and in-service training programs as assigned.Understand team goals and own role within the team. Support team decisions and cooperates with others within and outside the team. Utilize crisis physical intervention techniques under the direction of the teacher and as appropriate tothe setting and the degree of threat to the safety of the student and others.This position is aligned with the school calendar and is a full-time role covering a 10-month period and opportunites for extended school year program in summer break.

The Center for Effective Schools (CES) is a non-profit research and training center dedicated to building the capacity of schools and other child-serving institutions to better serve children and adolescents with, and at risk for developing, emotional and behavioral disorders (EBD). This mission is accomplished through training, consultation and applied research. The CES is a division of Devereux’s Institute of Clinical and Professional Training and Research. Established in 1999, the CES is located in King of Prussia, PA, just outside of Philadelphia. From its inception, the primary focus of the organization was and continues to be addressing the needs of children with and at risk for EBD and their families by promoting effective practices, informed by scientific evidence, to improve lives. The CES utilizes an “indirect” service delivery approach whether working at the individual or systems level. The theoretical foundation of this work is based in applied behavior analysis and positive behavior support and, to the extent possible, delivered within a preventative or early intervening framework.

Must be 21 years of age or olderHigh School diploma or GED required, Associates degree preferredWorking as an instructional assistant in a special education classroom with students with behavior disorders preferredDevereux has a zero-tolerance policy for abuse and maintains policies and procedures to systematically reduce the risk of abuse to occur in our organization.
